My argument being that CWM is being used to backup and recover our software installations and, being 'allowed' to install it would enable us to recover our devices from software crashes, potentially reducing the load on SO Support, if there's a problem.
I know that we can install CWM and, if there's a problem, remove it and SO would be none the wiser but, naively, I would prefer to be upfront and open about such things.
I was not asking for SO to provide support if a CWM installation caused software problems, but wanted to agree that it would not invalidate the warranty for unrelated issues, e.g. hardware failures.
Unsurpisingly, Paul was not to be persuaded on any aspect of the matter and commented:
Unfortunately any installation of this software will invalidate your warranty in its entirety. The software and hardware are not mutually exclusive.
Paul went on to define warranty invalidating software as
anything that roots the device is banned.
I did expain that the Excel is supplied already pre rooted with Busybox installed, but Paul did not accept that was the case.
So there you go, if you install CWM or or any other 'rooting' software, you invalidate the Excel's warranty in total.
Regards
Excel
