@Mitre: I downloaded from FF's link, put it on the SD card but got the same 'did not install' message. I tried with Easy Installer and Root Explorer.

Well there's one way to look at it. If Flash is installed, it slows down your browser ;)

Well IMHO the Apollo screen is too small for iPlayer . If you want to see the moving image, try IMDB. There's an app in Market!

Must confess, I watch iPlayer occasionally on my 7" Galaxy Tab :D

For reasons I won't go into, I now have two Galaxy Apollos! One has had Froyo installed 'professionally' ;) and the second one I flashed with Froyo myself.

I have just re-flashed the second one back to Eclair and I must confess the latter seems less prone to freezing if I try to open too many apps at once. With Froyo I occasionally have to power it down and restart when it fails to respond.

My thought was that the Apollo hardware is not suited to the more "sophisticated" Froyo OS. I agree Froyo seems quicker but the only immediate advantage I can see with Froyo on the Apollo is the ability to move some apps to the SD card. It will not support Flash of course.

No doubt I will be told I am talking a load of rubbish and should get out more :D

Rubbish? No, not at all! Given the fact that it was designed to be a budget handset your thoughts are perfectly legitimate.
I do believe that Samsung had every intention of releasing froyo for it but given the serious issues experienced with the Asian variant they probably have decided to get it right before release here.
They did the same with the galaxy s release of 2.3 and pulled it again pdq when it was crap.
Quality control? Erm.... Nope!

Good point! I could have paid £300++ for a real one ;)

After all, both my Apollos work, with limitations and having been involved with computerised systems of various flavours since 1977, I ought to know better :D Once upon a time, I would enter a bootloader on some antique box the size of a small filing cabinet using 16 toggle switches on the front panel. And that was before the OS went in from yards of punched paper tape!!

Then there was Linux...... :ugeek:

Just monitoring the Frodo Goya , Freda ...ono its Yoyo 2.2. experiences, and from a non (as yet) installer of this much venerated upgrade , there appears nowt but probs. Does anyone know if the Orange upgrade of the i5801 is having the same teething probs ???
If so I do not want a faster screen with no apps , no iplayer , flash or other bugs. I will live with what I bought off the shelf .
