it's been 2 days now since froyo released for i5801 (orange) in UK but still no sign for i5800 unlocked. Does anyone has any info if they will be releasing froyo for i5800 as well as they are exact replica's. Do they usually release for carriers first and then for unlocked so can we have some hopes now ?

Hi Viki

I had an email notification from Samsung on Wednesday last week that froyo for the i5801 might be released. The unusual part was that they said "might" not "will". It is also unusual that they have released it for a branded handset before generic.

My best guess is Orange have been pushing them for the update as they have lots of unhappy customers - Orange promised them the update the latter part of last year and a lot of people were going to cancel contracts stating that Orange deliberately misled people to get sales.

I can only presume that froyo for the 5800 will be released shortly. I have had froyo on mine for some weeks now, but the version I have will not be released through KIES. Im not in work until Thursday, but will ask a few questions when I have time, and get some answers.

It is worth noting, however, that Samsung are notoriously bad for giving out information, even to engineers like me. Ive lost count of the number of heated discussions ive had with the Korean eejits over tech matters and their total lack of customer information skills!

It's updated in Belgium as well today. I wonder even if they have any plans to release it for U.K? What could be the reason for so much delay. If there are bugs, why is it being released for Holland, Belgium and Orange UK?

At least if someone has any information that they are at least working on froyo that would be a bit of relief but uncertainty is killing us !

Ill try and explain.....

Although the same firmware will be released in certain regions, they have to incorporate different apn/cell network settings into each build. In other words although they may look the same they arent. The firmwares have very subtle differences. In the case of OrangeUK they pushed Samsung into a corner (probably - they are renowned for doing this to manufacturers) and forced them to release a branded FroYo- I know their version has a lot of bugs.

The froyo firmware I have on my unit is more universal and will not be released to the public as it is a beta. Having said that Samsung are absolute crap at keeping the public, and indeed engineers up to speed on tech matters.

check out this

Fonefixer looks correct that there are bugs and cockroaches in their release.
