Hello, am eagerly awaiting delivery of my new Scroll. Once I have it I am certain I will use this site which as far as I can tell is perfect for what I need i.e. good advice and no attitude.
I will apologise in advance though as I will be more a taker of advice than an offerer(?) of advice but if I do somehow have something will be sure to add it.

Cheers

Hey, welcome to the forum, don't worry, you`ll be helping people in no time, most of us only learned what we know since we bought our scrolls too ;)

If you are a tinkerer like most of us here, I would advise you follow the ClockWorkMod tutorial in the guides section - then once you have that installed, make a backup and save it on the PC incase you break something playing ;)

Your market will more then likely break at some point, or will not arrive with one, so check out the market fix thread too to repair that.

Once those two things are done, your free to play.

We have a thread showing how to disable 3 files that drain the battery (P,M,T), so I would do that once you have a full backup (Repair the market first before backup so if you restore you do not need to fix the market again and again)

Most of the guides you will need are in here

Detection, thanks a lot for the advice. It was just what I thought from reading through various posts but good to have it all confirmed!
What is the position on here regarding shall we say dubious sites offering applications/avi files? I saw some requests for recomendations but I wouldn't want to post if it would offend.
Mind you some of them have ad banners for various mobile and internet providers so they can't complain!

So long as nothing is hosted on this site, were ok for now to link .apk's etc from "other" places

If we start getting bother for linking them, there will no doubt be a nice big announcement saying to stop.

My favourite for apk's is www.filecrop.com

And this is a beauty for getting paid apps for free
http://www.applanet.net/

Install it on the scroll, and it works like the market, except everything is free

Well that sounds fair to me and thanks for those will check them out.
In return try http://www.frendz4m.com has a link for android apps but is limited at the moment but if looking for .avi files is the place to be has an extensive library of pretty much every tv show (heavily American but hey who doesn't want all 22 or so seasons of the Simpsons!) or film you'd need. The files are nice and small and work great on my phone (Nokia N95) of course haven't tried them on the Scroll yet but if they don't work well have a couple of other sites ;)

Hey MrBenn, I think you're going to be a great addition to the community. Be aware that while I've not seen any 'attitude', people do joke about and (as you guys say) 'take the piss' occasionally, though it's good natured and no malice is intended.

Chances are you will get a Scroll with v1.02 already on it, which will be somewhat problematical. But follow the guides Det linked you to and you'll have it licked in no time. Just please read everything at least twice before getting going and make sure you back up your data ASAP once you have CW loaded.

I hope to see you on the IRC channel, where we hang out and make fun of those who's first post is always the same questions asked and answered a hundred times before them. The best program for it is mIRC (http://www.mirc.com). Once you load it, chick this link and you'll be taken to the channel: irc://holmes.freenode.net/scrolltablet

Again, welcome to the forums :¬)

Thanks for the welcome and advice Diego I am fine with a bit of banter and even the occasional piss taking! I see that as a sign of a healthy and fun forum.

Hopefully will be getting my Scoll tomorrow - fingers crossed! Once I have will be sure to add details to my signature to help those giving me advice.

Cheers

Welcome to the madhouse!

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!
