failed firmware upgrade 1.02

Well, suprise suprise, another Maplins consumer device not up to scratch (despite delivery in less than 24 hours!).

I updated the firmware supposedly to 1.02 as per the instructions here http://www.storageoptions.com/assets/docs/scroll_fw_update.pdf and now it sits at the white 'scroll' startup screen for over an hour and doesnt boot any further.

I can run firmware upgrade again (holding down the power and vol up keys) but same again......

It's going back to Maplins on monday unless someone here can advise before then, a pity, I have got an android phone so I knew it may have some foibles, plus I have extensive experience with modding the asus EEEPC, so this is dissapointing.....

Sounds like yours is faulty. Take it back and get another, or perhaps a different device is for you. Your choice.

You could try a factory reset from the recovery menu

Unless you can get a copy of the 2.1 backup from someone, install CWM, copy the backup to the SDCARD, and restore to that through CWM

Someone was promising to post a link to the stock 2.1, but I dont think it has happened yet

thxs detection, but cannot 'install CWM' as it sits on the first white screen with the 'scroll' logo'........

maplins return started, will get another one and NOT flash it

Notice in your signature that the firmware is 1.02s. Given you originally had problems flashing to the 1.02 version, did your replacement Scroll already come with 1.02s installed on it, or did you try again?!

Also, anyone know what the difference is between 1.02 and 1.02s at all?

edit: Don't worry, think I found the answer in another thread. Something about the "s" denoting a stock install of the 1.02 firmware?!?

I think threre's a bit more to it than that. It would be interesting to discover what the exact differences were, people seem to have more aggro with the s version than the normal one (I dont think it is for "standard", I think its for a four letter word that sounds like "grit")

the first scroll was firmware 1.01, i was attempting to upgrade it 1.02.
the new one is firmware 1.02c, i shall NOT be attempting to upgrade it.......
