FYI - Linzd87's scroll is 1.02 from stock not from an upgrade, so we are not sure if there are any differences with having it from stock, than an upgrade. (they should not be, but as we have seen, strange things seem to happen with any version of firmware from SO) :?

I have done this rooted and unrooted and with and without install-recover.sh. Note with ordinary recovery menu the keys are not quite the same, volume up to move between options, volume down to select.

Hi idlemarvel,

Mine never gets as far as the android screen but I tried pressing the home button after switching on and holding down vol up...still no success. Thanks for sharing though. I'm guessing the stock version is different, or I've broken it somehow. Is there anything I can check to see if i'm missing necessary files or anything?

Thanks everyone for all of your help,

I usually hold down the vol+ until welcome appears, this as both on my stock version .94 and my clockworkmodded/rooted 2.1 (Although on 2.2 I can reboot into recovery mode with an inbuilt function)

Only use if you are familiar with using ADB

If you use ADB - You could try this command to get into recovery "adb reboot recovery" (from the tools folder)

(I.e on my set up i would use like this in CMD) C:\>android-sdk-windows\tools\adb reboot recovery

Hey Charlie,

I've just tried that and it restarted the Scroll, only for it to freeze up on the white "scroll" screen. It's obviously a problem with recovery rather than my attempts to access it. Should I be trying to install install-recovery.sh somewhere? I've contacted Storage Options and I'm waiting on their opinions on the matter...could it be something i've done? I've literally rooted the scroll then got half way through CWM and that's it....

It is a puzzle this fw 1.02 - you could try and put the file install-recovery.sh in to /system/etc/

then reboot

Try this one - if you want (AT OWN RISK) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18307166/install-recovery.sh

(so if the other files are in place, and you reboot, it might put the stock recovery back - well that's the plan)

Hey Charlie,

Thanks for the file. I just added it to /system/etc/ and checked it was there using super manager. Went for recovery mode and same result...crashes on white screen! You're right, it's certainly a puzzle! In fact, I could think of a few words for it!! lol. Thanks for your help :)

Add this file recovery-from-boot.p to /system/

so you have /system/recovery-from-boot.p

File is here (TRY AT OWN RISK) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18307166/recovery-from-boot.p

KEEP the 1st file install-recovery.sh - in place, that you added before.

then switch off and on again in normal mode - then off, then switch on into recovery mode

Hi,

SO have offered to replace my scroll....only I can't do a factory reset...good times. Any way to make sure my user data is all off there permanently?

im sorry if this has already been tried, but with the scroll held in portrait view, with the power button on the top right, you have been pressing the top half of the volume rocker switch, correct? what happens if you press the lower half of the volume switch? same thing? you only need to hold it until the scroll screen brightens during boot (hold volume before you press power button, and release volume button after the scroll screen brightens).
if in doubt, search
