Scroll or Galaxy Tab?

Postby andrewW » January 30th, 2011, 4:29 pm

My Scroll has convinced me Tablets are the way to go!

Now, convince me why I shouldn't buy a Galaxy P1000 ;)

I think price is the only limiting factor, personally I bought my scroll as a stop-gap until Lenovo releases the U1 (if they even plan to!)

Really it's down to how deep your pockets are!

VFM: value for money. Because the galaxy's reign at the top will be short lived, its only going to be super seeded by another/better device, at least with the price of the scroll you don't feel as ripped off when a better device comes along...
that and this community of scroll nutters :D

As already mentioned, the scroll is a great stop gap device while waiting for the honeycomb generation to hit the shelves. It's great value for money even with a potentially short life before it gets replaced...

I would definitely wait a month or two, lots better coming out and at worst, it will drive the price down.

USB host connection & a standard mini USB charge/data connector. I value both very highly and would choose the Scroll over the Galaxy Tab just for these. And, er, because of saving several hundred ££s ;)

I got to play with a Tab in a local phone store and wasn't that impressed. it was nowhere near as sorted-out as an iPad in terms of user-interface intuitiveness or firmware graphics optimisation (smoothness of scrolling etc). My partner has an iPad, and, even though I despise Apple products, have to admit it is very, very good, as indeed it should be for the price.

Editability or in other words id rather edit prop files on a £140 scroll than a £400 tab.
Plus the above reasons, price being the major factor for me. Though if I had the money for a tab id probably get a tablet pc (the tablet pc's that run windows and are wacom enabled)

I agree with ed on this, the scroll has given me a device that, if I do happen to screw up, I'm not going to kick myself for doing something really stupid.

I tend to agree on the point of waiting, the snapdragon 1.3mhz processor is going to become commonplace by spring/summer, 1gb ram and 16/32gb of built in storage. The U1 netbook/tablet hybrid (the one I'm waiting for) was shown at CES 2011 - all of that spec plus bluetooth, mobile broadband via sim slot and 2mp webcam, with a keyboard/tablet base running windows 7 with an i5 processor - there's some VERY cool hardware on the horizon, plus android 3.0 coming out soon, it's seriously worth waiting and saving for the moment and then wait until the new hardware is out and there's a lull in development.

Just my 2 cents as a computer hardware/software supplier during the day :)
