Drop Test

Postby barrelockingnut » January 26th, 2011, 1:50 am

Just dropped tested the Scroll again whilst in its keyboard case. Height 1.2metres, angle 30 degrees , target area , concrete floor , angle of impact 180 degrees , distance travelled on impact 2 metres , slight secondary deflection impact with another solid object. Damage NIL.
The drop test was ad hoc, as I fell over the step walking into work !!
(Age doesnt come easy).

Keyboard offers some protection if Scroll lands flat, however I double up for transportation and carry keyboard and case within a padded multi CD zip wallet.( also fits all plugs, connectors etc )

Hi Newbie here, got my Scroll about a week ago from Dabs and love it, even if I can't get to the Andriod marketplace...

Had a keyboard/case for my birthday yesterday, however the keyboard doesn't seem to work (not even a caps/num lock light in sight). I assume it's plug and pray and therefore I don't need to change any settings on the Scroll itself? Am I missing something or should I be posting it back to Amazon?

Cheers in advance for your help.

Yes look on back of scroll to check the USB port -there are two - you need to plug the keyboard into the host port. You don't need to set anything on the scroll, it becomes active automatically. The lights do work but they are hidden by the faux leather covering. But caps lock and num lock don't work anyway so moot point, see my keyboard map document listed earlier in this thread. I haven't updated it but I found that the delete key acts as the back key in context.

Thanks for your thoughts, yes I am plugged into the host port. Have tried it again this morning, rebooting scroll with it plugged in from the start, still no joy.
Sounds like I need to get it swapped.
Cheers,

I have a similar problem, it looks like the Host USB connector does not make good contact with the keyboard USB plug. Try gently moving the USB plug up/down side to side whilst tapping a key and see if it eventually makes contact. I have not had time yet to find the exact reason for the problem but it will confirm that the keyboard works. Hope it helps :D

Thanks bitsink, I am now typing this from my new keyboard! However it wasn't so much a case of jiggling it a bit, the connector is all but out of the port, literally just resting in the hole  I daren't bang the keys too hard for fear of it dropping out...

This can't be good, and given that other usb devices connect without issue I can only assume that it's the plug on the keyboard itself.

Mojo: thought about trying that but I don't have a mini to std usb adapter the right way round, if you see what I mean!

Idlemarvel: see what you mean about the lights, I would never have known they were on, also by default num lock is disabled.

Anyone else have issues with the connector on their keyboard?
