Thinking of getting one

Postby SteveC » January 27th, 2011, 2:11 am

HI all,

I want a tablet. I don't need one but really want one, so can't justify spending a fortune (maybe later in the year when Android 3.0 is settled and some amazing devices are out). All I want it really for is video on the hour journey to/from work on the train and some basic browsing (wikipedia/imdb when sitting on the sofa etc), so this Scroll tablet looks fine, especially at £103 at Tesco...

However, how good is the screen? I'm quite tempted by the Archos 70 for £80 more, but if this is good enough then I'll prob get the Scroll. Any nice HD video of the screen in action, or any photos NOT from a webcam would be nice! :)

Cheers,
Steve

Screens are good for Video, watching a 700Mb AVI is extremely crisp and sharp

Steve I'd advise nipping to your nearest Maplins where they'll happily let you play with one (You can then go elsewhere for the chepaer deals)

the screen is wickedly sharp and crisp, i love it :)
just dumping .avi movies to the sdcard is easypeasy and it plays straight off and looks brilliant.
i will say i have noticed in some oddly cropped formats the left and right edges of the screen (in landscape) dont get utilized, but as long as the video you want to watch is in a resolution as close as possible to the screen's native resolution then your bound to fall in love with your scroll too!

There are a lot of cheap chinese android "ipad" rip-offs on the market - this isn't one of them!

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now, video playback is brilliant, screen is chrisp and clear (actually side by side with an ipad, i'd say that the difference isn't actually noticable, not taking note of size of course!) and the quality of both battery and webcam are far in excess of what you'd expect for this price band.

Personally, if you have the money spare, go for it, you won't be disappointed!

As an addendum - with the team here working on 2.2 - you can also look forward to an even faster tablet with lots of extra benefits in just a few short weeks (maybe sooner) so definately worth the splurge!

If Tesco still had them in stock (are they in store anywhere?) I'd get one... where else for £100?

The cheapest price after tesco was Maplins from what i've been reading recently - http://www.maplin.co.uk/7inch-android-2 ... let-506956

£129.99

Definately go for tesco if they're still managing to do them at 103, I think Tesco Direct had them too.
