@Pete_S implied it works with mp4?
"...and get_iplayer automatically converts it to mp4 which plays perfectly on the scroll."

May depend on the mp4 codecs installed on your pc though... as different versions produce different results (Same as with divx/xvid versions)

I am using Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks

Get an free little app called "GSpot" for your pc... It'll analyse your videos and tell you which codecs they're encoded with and also if you're missing any

Sorry to hear you're having probs, idlemarvel. The streams downloaded by get_iplayer are flv (flash video) container with H264 video and aac audio. Then, it converts the container to mp4 using ffmpeg whilst retaining the same video and audio formats - that's how it does it so fast.

I noticed the people, including me, who find the mp4 plays OK on the Scroll seem to have v0.94 Scrolls. I wonder if it's a problem with the v1.01? I find that puzzling, because the video decoding is handled by hardware in the Scroll.

You could be right Pete , peeps on later versions seem to have less functionality compared to earlier versions. Once Steve-dj sorts it out we will all be running the same os

Hi

Don't know if this helps, but I have an app called Beebplayer, this accesses BBC iplayer and it is a simple matter of clicking the program you want to watch and it just streams it straight to the Scroll no probs. Quality is fine, although the speed of your internet connection does have an effect on this.

@davidhc yes I might try that, thanks

Others, anyone else got get_iplayer generated mp4 running on firmware 1.01?

Otherwise I might have to try the 1.02 upgrade mentioned elsewhere - would be nice to know what that was supposed to fix though!

UPDATE
Upgrading to 1.02 fixed this problem (along with many others)
I've come to conclusion that 1.01 is the Scroll equivalent of Vista or perhaps even Millenium Edition!

The hardware video decoder still requires the correct software routines within it to decode the video stream, ergo why a divx home dvd player won't decode xvid films without the correct firmware.
