Introducing myself...

Postby slim » January 13th, 2011, 7:40 pm

Hi, I'm Slim.

I bought the Scroll as it looked like very good VFM and fairly capable (i.e. Android 2.1 NOT 1.6). I bought the keyboard bundle from Dabs. The Scroll's firmware is version 1.00.

I run Linux on my laptop, (I can still access Mac OS X and Windows XP on other kit if required) so the underlying OS technology isn't totally alien though I'm completely new to the Android interface. I shall be interested in pushing it to 2.2 or 2.3 in due course, but I won't rush in case I brick it...

I took back an Elonex eReader because it required Windows software to run Adobe DRM, (purist, moi?) and I'm holding back from buying a Kindle while I try out the Scroll as an alternative handheld eReader. I've loaded Kindle and Adobe Reader so with the FBReader I can now handle pretty much any 'standard' eBook format: ePub, PDF and mobi. All in all, it's proving to be a bearable solution so far if heavy in the hand. It might just save me from the Kindle's proprietary solution.

I'm retired - was IT director for a big publicly-funded outfit, so I still have useful contacts when I trip over my own feet :o)

Thanks, Stu & Diego. You've got yourself a significant job here with this forum. Must say how much I appreciated finding it for such an obscure bit of no-name kit. Great that you took the initiative. Thanks.

Thanks, Charlie. It's really good to have a dedicated forum for the Scroll. Before I was just fishing all over the place for advice and trying to work out what was applicable and what wasn't.
