However, i've found that over time the plugins can stop working, and sometimes even when working they can be flaky sometimes (dropping out, not 100% smooth, or links just not working). It's NOT a 'set and forget' solution - it needs updates for the plugins now and then, and sometimes it hangs if left on for days at a time. IMO, it's definitely not the best solution out there, and for the money it's a rip off these days (you're looking at £200 for a jailbroken ATV2). I'm still looking for a better solution....

Thanks Stu, that is helpful. If I was prepared to spend that sort of money (which I am not) I might consider a PS3.
Hopefully in a few weeks I can begin to play with a Raspberry Pi which is much nearer my (for my read the wife's  ) budget.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Looks like I will be joining this party soon, as I now have more time available - for now, anyway! ;)

So hand me a slice of Raspberry Pi :ugeek:

I got lucky last year, bought a couple of ATV2's for £100 each... right before they skyrocketed in price to £200 each!
Because the ATV3 is the only model available now, and it has yet to be JB'n, everyone is paying a premium for the ATV2 model. Once a JB comes along for the ATV3, the price of ATV2's will fall through the floor.

Great news on both there. BTW where did you order your Pi from?

Thanks TC - So when should you get yours? - I am just looking to get the B model and an enclosure for it too, as I have everything else for it in my tech box.

Probably going to use it to stream to the TV in the bedroom as already have a HTPC set-up in the lounge. :D

Sounds like we are on the same project then Charlie. I suspect I shall be asking you questions as well as BobC.
I have ordered the Model b with enclosure as like you I already have everything else although I might still buy another SD card. I proposed to start off with raspbian and see how I get on from there.

My delivery is expected Monday by end of day, I have a tracking number which shows this as the process:
Castle Donnington, United Kingdom 17/03/2013 15:00 Arrival Scan
Leeds, United Kingdom 16/03/2013 14:45 Departure Scan
16/03/2013 11:30 Export Scan
16/03/2013 11:30 Origin Scan
United Kingdom 16/03/2013 8:16 Order Processed: Ready for UPS

The total cost with postage is £38.75 but £6.46 of that is VAT.

At least I can play with the Pi without the risk of bricking it like I seem to have done with my £40.00 cheap Chinese tablet which although is still recognised by Windows as a USB connection I just can't seem to be able to communicate with it any more despite it being an A13 chip.

Hi
Just to chip in, will be following this thread with interest
I purchased a Raspberry Pi a while back, loaded it up with Raspbmc while it was in beta, it worked, but at that time could not get my remote working. With other things going on, sort of got put aside.
See Raspbmc is in final release now, so with my Raspberry Pi doing nothing, may pick this up, with you guys.
