Hi robertparkin22, I suspect you are well versed in Microsoft Windows but perhaps less so in android as Internet Explorer is not yet available for android, although this is promised for some tablets running windows 8.
So I assume you are talking about the stock browser that comes pre-installed on the Excel.
The stock browser is a little limited and can appear to be almost non functional at times, particularly if you have a less than good broadband speed and a less than strong WIFI signal.
It is not uncommon when using the stock browser for the address bar to disappear whilst pages are loading.
Although it is not always easily seen, there is usually a thin blue line travelling from left to right which indicates the page/data is being loaded. Sometimes this may stall for a while approximately ½" or so from the end and if you have not spotted this
(more data is being downloaded) you may well think the browser has frozen as usually you cannot scroll or select until the download process is complete.
I suppose the short and easy answer to your browser address bar question is for you to touch the address bar when it briefly appears. This will freeze the address bar and allow you to edit the text within it to whatever site you want to visit. Alternatively press the menu button on the Excel (
this is the lower button on the front right of the face of the Excel with 3 vertical lines within a box). This will bring up a menu on the side of the screen with nine options one of which is "New Tab" which will give you a new internet search screen. Also among these nine options is "Settings" which will alow you to set defaults such as your required home page etc.
(a little bit like internet options on a windows pc) If your home page default has been set as Google then you can search your requirements from here.
However, if you are new to android you may not know about the voice search facility built in to later versions of android. If you have this installed and activated you will see a small icon on the top left
(assuming you are using android 4 Ice Cream sandwich) shaped like a microphone with a magnifying glass icon to its left. Touch the microphone icon until a small dialogue window opens asking you to "Speak Now" - simply speak your address clearly - something like - "BBC News" - and the browser will search for and display a list of BBC related links.
If you only see a small magnifying glass icon in the top left of the screen then voice search has not been activated but you can search by pressing the magnifying glass icon which will bring up the on screen keyboard from where you can type your search request. If voice search is not activated then go into settings/lanuguage&input where you can put a tick in the box marked Google voice typing.
Lastly on the browser topic you may want to consider installing an alternative to the stock browser, like Chrome as a for instance. I am not specifically recommending Google Chrome but it does give you the address bar with every tab and it is easy to switch between tabs (like ie9) and it is also relatively quick when compared to stock. Chrome can be downloaded here
(you will need to set up a Gmail/Google account to access playstore) https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... wsMSwyLDNdFinally you say there is a problem transferring favourites from the laptop to the Excel.
You need to be aware that if the favourites you want to transfer have been set using Microsoft Windows then the sites may not show or react correctly on a mobile platform like android. So you might find it safer, albeit longer, to manualy set the favourites/bookmarks on the Excel. There are some clever utilities than can sync tabs which may help a little but you need Chrome on all the devices for this to work. You can read about it here:
http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/sync-ope ... in-chrome/Lastly, you mention about connecting the Excel to your laptop. To ensure that both devices communicate with each other it is necessary on the Excel to go into settings/developer options and place a tick in the box for USB debugging. Once you have done this the PC will be able to view files on the Tablet.
When you use the supplied lead to connect the two you may find a window pops up saying USB connected "Turn on USB storage" if this window does not pop up automatically then touch the clock in the lower right hand corner and a small dialogue box will pop up with an option which states "USB connected" touch this and the screen will change. Then touch where it says "Turn on USB storage" and wait until the little green android figure turns from green to red. Then using the file explorer on the PC you can browse to the tablet which should show up as a mass storage device
(NB the first time you connect the tablet Windows may install drivers) If the tablet also has an external SD card installed then icons for two mass storage devices will show up in My Computer on the PC. You can simply drag and drop files from one to the other, but be careful not to disturb any files needed for the tablet to work. Films, text documents, photo images can all be placed on the external sd card using a folder structure just like on a Windows PC.
To find these files later on the tablet you will need to use the android file explorer and browse to the external SD card. as with the Stock browser being limited, so is the stock file explorer - you may wish to consider installing something more powerful like E.S. File Explorer which you can get here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... GNha2UiXQ..
Hope this helps a little, feel free to ask more questions.
Important: Before you disconnect the USB lead from either the PC or the tablet firstly make sure you touch the area on the tablet screen which says "Turn off USB storage" it may also be worth checking the safely remove USB devices from Windows as well and if it still shows the tablet as connected then click on safely remove android. Failure to do this properly may render the tablet storage/external SD card unusable.
