So don't use gallery and you'll be Ok ?
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Yes, but it's much more convenient, so when a vid shows a gallery thumbnail ok but doesn't play you don't expect it to play from file manager, unless you know different?

Hi icarusi, forgive my slight tone of sarcasm in my first post but it made me smile as you stated your problem and an answer to it in the same post.
Video files can be a volatile subject as everybody has their own favourite player and their own favourite ripping software and everyone thinks their way is always the best way.

The stock gallery app is quite generic and there are free and paid for dedicated video players that can do a much better job.
It may be that some of the files you are trying to play have been packed using an incompatible codec or are of an incompatible resolution for the generic gallery app to cope with but which the stock video player can utilise.
As I say it is a complicated affair and there are many views about it.

I suggest you browse the Google play store and look at the ratings for the various dedicated players and try them out.
Personally, I use Mobo player but you choose whatever works best for you.

If in the end you decide that you only want to use the gallery app for playing video's then you will have to ensure that each file is packed and uses a codec that gallery can cope with.

There might be some info here that will help you understand why some of your video's don't work as you expect them to and others do: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2343 ;)
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
