Re: Android 4.0.4 firmware for the Extreme

Postby Trashcooky » May 25th, 2012, 2:21 pm

Hi Guys, when I get a chance I will look into this BBC iplayer thing a bit more and let you know exactly what version I'm using and how I have it set up. SWMBO wants to go out and we are having dinner with my family later so you may have to wait till 2morrow for an update on this from me. As this is slightly leading off topic for this thread if there are enough people who want to use iplayer who are having issues perhaps you could please post here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2389&hilit=BBC+iplayer

i got ITV player working.. works 100% better than it did before i can resize the screen and it works.. resize it back and it dont like that but no big issue i can live with that.

with the bbc iplayer im not 100% sure here. i downloaded the app from play, it shows up as an app on the tablet but when i open it it would seem to route through the web browser and plays that way. i have even tried using a different browser (opera) just on the off chance but this hasnt changed anything either ??? when i open iplayer it asks me to choose an action to complete which is either of the browsers and not the app... im guessing its the version of the app or a setting somewhere... is there a version i should be using for this ??

i have also noticed that since putting on itv player my play icon has disappeared from the apps menu ??

im running the extreme unoficial 4.0.3 ics

@Minijay,
Glad to see you got ITV player downloaded, installed and working OK.
Regarding your missing play icon ? I can't understand where that has gone as you don't appear to have done anything that would cause this. Try going to the play app and make a long press on it to put a shortcut back on your home-screen.
Re BBC iplayer, I need you to check something for me on your tab. go through system/manage apps and choose the BBC app you have installed, scroll the page and somewhere you should see BBC app version Number. Let me know what this is.

After I flashed 4.0.3 I restored all my apps with Titanium backup and this is how I got my BBC iplayer back on the tablet. However, I originally had downloaded and installed the iplayer app whilst I was still on Gingerbread so I wondered if this may be the reason why my iplayer works outside a browser and yours will only try to work within a browser. I checked my app version as 1.3 so I uninstalled it, rebooted and then downloaded the current version from play store. I ended up with the same version 1.3 and everything works as before 99.5% perfect but definitely not from within a browser.

I can only think that due to the fact that my Excel buildprop is totally different to your Extreme buildprop that Google Play may be offering you a different version - that's why I would like you to check yours and let me know please.

Yea, my BBCiPlayer (downloaded from GP) does the same... prompts for a browser. If I use Opera, it says that I am outside of UK! Curious! Plays ok (ish) through regular browser but is slow to load, Firefox - forget it, Chrome - very slow, Dolphin - device is not recognised. If I pause or FF, sometimes it gets unstable and stutters. I am on stock 4.0.3 btw.

hi suggsy

yes its happening with the latest 4.0.4 beta. ive downgraded to the 4.0.3 unoffical extreme version and its better than stock but forces the browser use just the same.....

is there a way to downgrade to honeycombe on the extreme, I know its a strange ask as normally we go forward and not back but just curious as to whether it would work better

@trashcooky I've checked the version of iplayer and it is 1.3 as well so it must be down to the build as you said
also the play icon isn't in my apps folder either so I can long press it. the only workaround I have is to put the large widget on the desktop but as this is a advertising app everytime I press it, it goes straight to the app that was showing, not the end of the world just don't understand where it went :-)

This is happending on this ROM????

Suggsy I agree it's getting confused so I have started this new thread for those wishing to discuss the Extreme ICS unofficial 4.0.3 rom - problems/issues which can be found here viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2675 can those members who have flashed the unnoficial 4.0.3 rom to their Extreme's please make your future posts about this using the thread linked above specifically for that purpose. Thanks.
