ditto lol

ah well, was worth a shot!

I think i'll attempt my "push sh from linux because it might have the right permissions" approach next. But I'm giving up for the evening.

Once again, cheers for your help :)

That's the strange thing, I can... which is why i reckon if i can push the correct files on i might stand a snowball's chance...

got ubuntu going on virtual box, and am pulling the system partition of my desire-z. might work, might not...

boot up the tablet let let it keep boot looping or whatever, then see if you can adb shell, as a test type

Code: Select all
lsmod

What does that return?

tried that, the USB device never even registered on windows.

but GET IN! I now have adb shell working in recovery. Huzzah!

for the record, only copying /system/bin/sh doesn't work - with the correct permissions set (755) you get back to the "file not found" hence copying an entire system partition.

anyway, i'm onto adb shell now, so reckon it's a good time to attempt to copy that pesky boto.img back to nandc :D

shell works - ls don't work lol

though suspect i may need to set some permissions on the ubuntu copy of system/xbin (where it lives) and re-push

haha, was missing /system/xbin from the path

sorted that out, ran the cat /sdcard/boot.img > /dev/block/nandc

AND IT'S UNBRICKED

thank god i had a copy of the original boot.img :)

Cheers for your help bud, but i suspect to get it working these are the steps you'd need to take...

1) in linux (because it handles permissions the same way) grab a copy of another android's /system/bin /system/sbin and /system/xbin folders & contents
2) chmod all these files to 755
3) boot bricked extreme into recovery
4) push the above files onto extreme
5) push boot.img onto extreme (/sdcard/boot.img)
5) adb shell
6) PATH=$PATH:/system/xbin
7) this:
suggsy89 wrote:No you wont be able to dd it back, you will have to cat it back...

Code: Select allcat /sdcard/boot.img > /dev/block/nandc
sync
sync
reboot

That should do the trick, if not youve also borked your system partition

Anyway, i'm now back to the original problem where the /data /cache haven't been mounted and /system is always mounted as rw

I am 100% convinced that a copy of a working extreme's /system should sort that out, as i imagine the problem struck when i tried installing busybox off the market (which must have deleted/overwritten something)

Yeah, i reckon i can do that :)

my /system seems to still have the remnants of the busybox instaled in it which bust it - despite a factory reset, so it won't be a true image, but i'll rip 'em off now
