mobile connection

Any idea if its possible to connect to a mobile donly via the usb.. I gave it a try with a vodafone but so far its only compatible with mac and pc... nio linux..


Would be brilliant if youy could access the net on the go with this brilliant bit of kit...

Never heard of it working through the USB yet, but people are successfully using their SmartPhones to broadcast a wireless signal and act as an access point to their 3G connection, then connecting the scrolls wifi to that so they can have internet on the move

you should be able to do it with a 3g dongle as lng as it has linux/android support I guess

Hi, just found this info

With the latest version of Android 21. V2, I have my Verizon Novatel 760 3g dongle working. I use WCDMA2 and it connects right away. Make sure you cycle the USB OTG between device and host and back to host before plugging in the modem.

There are some dongles that work and some that dont i think. I was looking at an Android 2.1 tablet on the Maplins site and they list a few that work.

I guess it depends on drivers and things being available for the OS.

I have a T-Mobile dongle at home that i could try?

Just Bought a 3 3G MiFi device via Amazon (Seller) which came with SIM datacard loaded with 3 Gb/3-month data allowance. Signal on 3 network can be a bit 'iffy' but Scroll picked it up without any problem, and after entering the security key, it worked perfectly, with quite acceptable download speeds.
When I researched such a device, Vodafone and 3 in particular market a device, but they are relatively expensive (£70 plus) and come with restrictive contracts, whereas this one you can just top up as and when necessary. You can connect up to 5 devices wirelessly at any one time.

I'd just like to set the record straight on this statement.

i have been with 3 for approximately 6 years, and not once have i had serious issue with my signal other than in the middle of nowhere in a field in suffolk.

in the past year or so, i have had a 3 mifi dongle, a blackberry, and currently running a ZTE-Blade which i use as my wifi hotspot with my Scroll, and along the whole of the M25 corridor, i have had no issues, even data services have been fine.

not to mention that the 3 network are in the 'Everything, Everywhere' programme, which allows piggybacking on other carriers hardware.

A quick shufty through the spares box at home reveals an O2 mobile internet dongle and a T-Mobile internet dongle as well as my Sony Ericsson T-715 on 3 PAYG. Does anyone here know if any of them work with the Scroll or if they can be made to work for 3G connection?
