Would just like to say, that I am disgusted :-)
I went to this wonderful forum on the stock browser, and it popped up a message saying that the website has reported that an iPad version of Tapatalk was available. When I got over the anguish, I changed the browser settings to Desktop :-)

Lol, you crack me up, have a look at this...

Code: Select all
Working folder found

Kernel found at offset 2048 in boot.img
Making folder BOOT-EXTRACTED ...

Extracting kernel ...
Extracting ramdisk ...

Press Enter to continue

boot1.png

boot2.png

init1.png

Only the ramdisk can be edited here, the kernel cant, and needs to be built from source.
What i did was edit "init.sun4i.rc" and changed the line...
Code: Select all
symlink /mnt/sdcard /sdcard
TO
Code: Select all
symlink /mnt/extsd /sdcard

Re-packed...
Code: Select all
---------------------------------------------------------------

Ensure your BOOT-EXTRACTED folder has the kernel and ramdisk
files that you need.

Kernel  = zImage (sometimes referred to as boot.img-kernel)
Ramdisk = boot.img-ramdisk folder

---------------------------------------------------------------

These files will be re-packed into a boot.img that will be
copied to your current working folder.

---------------------------------------------------------------

<Press ENTER>

Found BOOT-EXTRACTED folder, checking contents ...
Found boot.img-ramdisk
Found zImage
Working folder found

Kernel found at offset 2048 in boot.img

Compiling mkbootfs ...
mkbootfs successfully compiled

Compiling mkbootimg ...
mkbootimg successfully compiled

Creating ramdisk cpio archive ...

Attempting to determine kernel base address ...
Using base address of 0x40000000
Attempting to determine command line parameter ...
Using cmdline: console=ttyS0,115200 rw init=/init loglevel=8

Building new boot.img ...

newBoot.img created
Moving to working folder as boot.img

boot.img size
Old: 8.3M
New: 8.3M

Removing BOOT-EXTRACTED folder ...

Press Enter to continue

Pretty simple really... lol

Here is the boot.img with stock mount points http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4364278/Excel/ICS/boot.img

Well.. that looks a little scary.
Funny enough I was having a play with extracting the boot.img earlier.
Btw, you did that boot.img fast O:-)
I will follow your guide and have a play though. Amazing stuff.
Thanks for supplying that boot.img. It will come in handy if my head explodes:-P

Well I never got a chance (as yet) to have a play with your boot.img as yet, because my Mrs has taken ill.
But I did get a chance to put your boot.img with stock mountings on.
But here is the weird bit.
All mountings now appear normal. But... I was unable to write to the internal sdcard.
So I edited the platform.xml and added <group gid="media_rw" /> to WRITE EXTERNAL STORAGE permission for the hell of it.
Rebooted, and I could write to the internal sdcard again :-)
But, everything still seems to write to extsd by default.
Weird.

hey suggsy, i hope i can still get help and advice after last weeks misunderstanding.

anyway, your first post says that ideally it should be flashed after a previous ics flash. would it be okay to try from the stock firmware? i have it backed up with cwm.

if so, would it be best to, 1) wipe cache, 2) factory reset, 3) flash main zip then market fix, 4) factory reset again then restart.

i do appreciate the help from all the members especially the experts including yourself so i look forward to your response

If you are on stock firmware, ie; Gingerbread (Android 2.3) this will not work for you because of the different partitions, bootloader, and some other things.
At the moment to get ICS you will need to flash via livesuit using a (bla_bla.img) file, i did try to port over _funs ICS update for Gingerbread, but got confused, so i ended up ditching it for the time being, i will try again when i get more time.

So at the moment, dont try to flash this if you are still on Gingerbread, you will screw up your Excel.

Hey suggsy.
I haven't been able to look at that boot.img. My dear wife really isn't well at the moment.

But I did replace the boot.img with the other one you provided.
And I seem to be having issues with the external sd card.
Data is still being written to android/data on the external.
So I did a test, unmounted the external and tried to download a file using the stock browser.
It stated I needed an sd card in order to download. Instead of using the internal as normal.
My mountings seem normal now, so this doesn't make sense mate.
If I am unable to get back to this thread for a couple of days, apologies.
Thanks suggsy :-)
Don't really want to go back to stock ics, as this one with the new kernel is really nippy :-)

Cheers suggsy.
One other thing I forgot to mention.
If I go to manage apps with the external sd removed and select Move to sdcard. It will show insufficient space.
I may just in the meantime, double check everything and flash the update with the supplied boot image again and see what happens.
May not be for a couple of days though. My step daughter is coming over to keep her mum company, and I am hopefully gonna take the oldest granddaughter to see Battleship :-)
Thanks again suggsy mate.
