Another potential ICS

Postby APG1886 » March 15th, 2012, 10:02 am

I have a Sumvision Cyclone Astro tab, which is a brother/sister to the scroll excel. I have had ICS 4.0.1 on the tablet since day 1, following the info on here/pandawill. I only give you this seemingly useless information to clarify that any Astro developments should be compatibile with the Excel.

I receoved an e-mail from sumvision yesterday to say that a beta ICS firmware was released on their website. I haven't seen it on there as yet, but have contacted them to see where it's available. They've also posted a youtube guide (search sumvision astro and ICS and you should find it) but not been able to see it on my work comp, thought you guys might like to know

Although they consider it a beta, and we already have a pretty stable rom, i think its worth a flash ;)

Quick update - sumvision have now released a full 4.0.3 firmware. I've got it on my tab, seems far better than the 4.0.1 I've had on until now (MOMO9C Kevin). I had the same virus flagged up, but it was actually the livesuite software included in the zip, so just dealt with that and kept the firmware image.

If anybody wants me to test anything specific let me know, but all very good so far.

What is the Ram usage like? How much is free on idle?
Are you able to download Angry Birds and Facebook from the market?
What language is pre-installed? English?
What is the Battery Life like?
Does the Camera work? Is the frame rate low, and is zoom working?
Does Calender sync work?
Does Maps and Street View work?
Does Maps find your location using wifi?

These are the questions we need answering

To cut a long story short, I'm switching to the ICS 4.0.3 you've been working on suggsy, I've had stability issues and some of the below you'll see. A lot of this I didn't pick up as I use my tablet 99% of the time for comic viewing and films, so it was only testing it that really showed some flaws.

What is the Ram usage like? How much is free on idle?
Around 160MB seems around average on idle. Not brilliant with measuring these kind of things. Generally, the tablet performs well, but does seem to suffer some quite serious lag if you're running 4-5 concurrent processes.

Are you able to download Angry Birds and Facebook from the market?
Nope, incompatible device for AB, unable to locate FB.
**Edit - now able to see apps I wasn't previously, don't know why, after 3 days running...?**

What language is pre-installed? English?

US English, switches easily to UK English.

What is the Battery Life like?
Slightly poorer actually.

Does the Camera work? Is the frame rate low, and is zoom working?

Camera works better than I've seen it on either ICS or GB so far. All functions working and reasoable frame rate.

Does Calender sync work?

Haven't tested as yet.

Does Maps and Street View work?
Maps yes, street view not working.

Does Maps find your location using wifi?
Not at current.

Apologies for lack of specifics with answers, really very poor technically! But if I can help with specifics and you're patient enough to explain how to get the info, I'll do whatever I can.

Hi

Can anyone help? I've just bought a Sumvision Cyclone Astro 7" tab but I'm having trouble downloading the ICS 4.0.3 update as the media fire link provided by the manufacture http://www.sum-vision.co.uk/productinfo/cyclonetablet/cyclonetablet_astro.asp - Basically, they have run out of bandwidth so I cannot download it.

Does anyone have the original (official) zip file they could upload some where or perhaps you could PM me and I could give you my hotmail sky drive details to upload the file.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Paul
