Sign In problems

Postby anotherbob » February 19th, 2012, 9:33 am

Just got my Excel from Amazon. I'm finding my way round OK so far. I've encountered two problems involving You Tube and Google maps. I have an existing You Tube account and I have tried to sign into it on the Excel. I can get to my account and see My Channel etc. but the Excel keeps giving me a sign-in error notification?
On Google maps it invites me to sign in but when I do, using my existing Google account, it says "there is already a ********* account on this phone". and keeps giving me onscreen "login failed" messsages.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum :D

Bit of an odd one, this, isn't it? I'm just powering up my Excel to have a look for you.

When you first booted the device, did it ask you to sign in to your google account, and did you do so? Open the Android Market and click the menu button. Then click "accounts" and verify that the account is there. I dont personally have a youtube account but will have a look to see if it lets me create & sign in with one. I also dont use Google Maps on the device as it has no GPS, but will download and test it all the same to see if I can reproduce your issue. Someone else may jump in with more info for you shortly.

My initial thoughts are that you may have to reset the device back to factory default and start again.

Thanks for your time.
The device did not ask me to sign in. I remember thinking that was odd, because my other Android devices have done this. Then I saw there was no ACCOUNTS AND SYNC option in SETTINGS.
I got to the Market by placing the Market app. shortcut on the homepage. I can see My Apps in the Market menu, but not Accounts. When I login to Market on my PC the Excel is listed among my devices and most of the apps I have downloaded have been compatible.
In case it is relevant the device is using Android Version 2.3.4, Baseband Version V1.6, Kernel Version 2.6.36-android scroll@scroll excel, Build number 97F1-D1-H1-H01-1291-20111128.

Very strange..

Have you tried doing a factory reset? It seems thats the way to go. I have just done it on mine (identical firmware to yours) and it asks me to sign in

I assume you mean the FACTORY DATA RESET that appears in the Privacy settings? Tried that and the first thing I saw was the Android Recovery system? I switched off and on and the normal boot screens appeared followed by the 6 "helpful" tips. However it is not asking me to sign in. Nor is there an ACCOUNTS AND SYNC in Settings.
I've reloaded Google maps and the problem repeated itself. I'm still getting the YouTube error notification too, despite having access to my account?

Very strange, try emailing SO support. They might exchange it.
If the recovery screen appeared did you try wipe data / factory reset?

Not being familiar with the recovery system I decided to leave it alone.
I will contact SO support.
