Was it you that, at one stage, reverted back to 2.3 (Gingerbread) when an earlier version of ICS proved unsatisfactory? If so, was it just a case of using LiveSuite to overwrite ICS with 2.3?

Yes that's what Johnny did, with a copy of the 2.3.4 image he got from Box. - (Someone found a link to one and posted it on this forum the other day too).

Yes that was me - as Charlie said

4 is so much nicer to use that I may keep it and live without iPlayer for now - it is unwatchable anyway.

Video files play back fine on this version with no sync issues. Just need to keep using to see if I get slowdown.

@Charlie... do you know, are all the Excel clones (Momo9 / Tablo etc) fundamentally the same device? So, if we update to the same version of ICS as @Johnny has done, are we likely to have the same outcome or is the situation more complex than that?

They do seem to be the same hardware (99% sure), just different branding and firmware. If you use the same ICS version as Johnny on your Excel - you should get the same results.


@Johnny - Did you wipe the cache and dalvick cache after flashing ICS (if not, clear those & you might get better performance - i.e. no conflicts with any leftover 2.3 stuff)

@Charlie - Thanks, I'm more than tempted to give it a go, but am mindful of poor @blueeagle69's experience... I know it was a different situation but that was a whole heap of pain I'd prefer not to get into!

I think I'll wait a while yet, maybe until (if!) SO come up with an 'update.zip' (or whatever it's called) for flashing back to a vanilla version of 2.3 if it all goes wrong.

@Excel - You will probably NOT get back to a SO 2.3.4 version at the mo' as we don't have one (a part from a CWM backup, but that is different in this case, i.e flashing back from ICS). So you would have Tablo branded firmware on your Excel, but...

...in theory you should be able to flash back via livesuite to the Tablo version and then flash CWM recovery, and finally restore to a SO version via CWM - IF!!! the nand partitions are the same on the tablo (2.3.4) as the Excel.

Would need @Johnny to confirm the nand partitions for a tablo using 2.3.4
