Faulty Internal Speakers

Postby prime » January 19th, 2012, 11:04 pm

My Scroll Excel's internal speakers have just died.

Noticed the problem about two weeks ago, when suddenly I could here no sound. Toggled the volume control with no positive result. Reset the the Scroll and sound came back. I remember doing this on two occasions.

Today my internal speakers are completely dead. No matter how many times I have reset the Scroll no sound. However the sound works fine when I connect it to my TV via the mini hdmi port.

Returning it back to Ebuyer, need to contact them tomorrow for approval. Anyone else experiencing any volume related issues?

Thats odd.....

I must say, I have a strong feeling that the Excel has a reasonably serious audio bug. Given the fact that many users report lagging problems (I have experienced it on youtube so far, haven't tried other videos) I noticed last night that if I rewound a video a little, it would take a few seconds for the sound to reappear but the video was playing quite happily.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but when I listen to audio it almost sounds like it has an "SRS" effect to it, like its trying to create the effect of the sound bouncing around walls. I have a similar thing on my audio system at home but I have disabled it as it sounds awful.

Maybe this supposed SRS is what's causing the audio lag/other problems.... Let us know how you get on with returning it for replacement. Might also be worth pinging an email to SO support, I will send one today explaining the issues ive found - the more of us that email when we get audio problems, the more likely they are to do something about it.

@prime - Sorry to hear that.

@FF - that is interesting, it's given me an idea to test, I will report back later.

Couriers picked up the Scroll Excel parcel today, I have decided to get a refund and it was accepted.

I did not expect anything less as the device was less then 28 days old, on top of that I really took care of it. Did not take the screen protection or the backing off.

I will of course sadly not be contributing to these forums anymore until I buy another Scroll Excel. However I will be browsing now and then to see how things are progressing.

Good luck too all.

I purchased my nephew an excel from ebuyer as he really liked the one I got the wife for Xmas.

Arrived a few weeks ago but only gave it him yesterday as his birthday and the internal speaker doesn't work. Sound is fine through headphones and mini hdmi to tv but the internal speaker is just dead.

Need to contact ebuyer today about it.

My nephew is sooo gutted. He was looking forward to a good session on angry birds!!

Hi Elljay, seeing as you have nothing to lose so to speak, try do a factory reset on it, it may be something corrupt that might just get resolved by performing it.

To carry this out, make sure the tablet is powered down and plugged in to the power.
Hold the power button on while holding down the settings keys
You will eventually get into the recovery menu, navigate up and down with the volume buttons and I think its the power button to select the option.
