It would really make this thing super amazing, the prospect of using game pads would be the icing on the cake.

And it would add another unique selling point for this machine, to add to the long list already!!

When I show friends and show them what it can do they are usually blown away. Full screen hdmi output of the android desktop and and wireless keyboard & mouse support, let alone 3d.

I think the major problem we are going to face with this is the fact that it is a Chinese import.

They have along history of not upgrading / changing existing devices. They would rather sell a newly-badged device with newer firmware on it. I'd love to know exactly what these Scroll devices are based on but my feeling is we will never find out.

The major problem manufacturers face is the cost of developing these new firmwares. If they don't expect the device to last much longer than the guarantee period then they wont bother with any major updates, just bug fixes. One only has to look at how the telecomms market was flooded with Chinese "iClones" when the official iPhone was released - I have actually had arguments with iClone customers claiming I should fix their handset under warranty as they really believe its an iPhone. Asian companies will flood the market with clones of anything new just to make quick $$$. Unfortunately, most of their cloned stuff is very sub-standard.

I'm waiting for an Excel to be delivered to me soon, which, judging by the positive responses owners are giving on this forum, may change my opinion. My original scroll (7" resistive with 0.94 firmware) was ok at the time but I now have a Viewpad 7 which outclasses the original scroll in every respect.

I personally would like to see ICS on the Excel, but only if SO release it.

It should not be to hard to port ICS to the Excell the hardware can certainly handle it and the sorce kernel has been released by Google for developers to build from scratch also ICS 4.0.3 is supposed to have been made more generic for use accross different devices which has been the problem with older android OS looking at other forums people are cross flashing roms on similar devices to each other and having only small(ish) problems on boot so hopefully we can look forward to Official 4.x.x for Excell
for small(ish) read you would not want to run it like this.

Well I think yes.

I see on other similar tabs that 4/ICS fixes the Skype camera issue e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zepad-ZT-280- ... 3f11dff8cd (I know it's not the same unit/hardware), but that particular fix would be good enough for me.

I will look at this when i get home but must advise that flashing this rom could brick your excel
Before you do anything you need a custom recovery and backed up images of your excell

I been on another forum trying to get Cyanogenmod9ICS
built from source for excel but we have no E T A for that

i found these instructions on another forum, not too sure if this works with the Scroll Excell but it does say it's for all "AllWinner" based A10 tablets which includes the MOM09C / Scroll Excell / tablo TAB7012 (my ver of tablet) plus others.

If you do give it a go and it works, I'd appriciate some "idiot proof" instructions so I can try mine.

The part I find interesting is this, these are the two things I have problems with and devizen the OP says these issues are now fixed on his tab.

AFTER UPGRADE

Audio Delay is finally fixed.
I upgraded my MOMO9C Pro to 4.0.1 Android OS.
The audio delay is gone for all applications.
Games, Video, Skype and everything.
Everything is working from what I tested.
Wifi, Browser, Market and all.
One thing to note, Skype Video Call will have some problem.
The video call works with some image problem. There will be lines on the screen of the person that you are video calling to.

I uploaded the files to mediafire for people who want to upgrade their MOMO9C Pro to 4.0.1.
The script and driver to enable Android Market on 4.0.1 are included in the files below.

Very nice find rayhertford - I will be testing this out - When I put CWM5 on my excel and make a backup. I was hoping to not do that so soon, as I wanted to fully test the excel out in stock condition. Looks like I will have to speed up my testing

I am sure Mitre will have a go, as he has CWM5 and backed up already.


P.S. There is a post here on how to put CWM5 on the Excel - Mitre has done it ok - but take care when doing it (sure you will) and do at your own risk.
