Favourite App

Postby forrrge » January 10th, 2012, 5:30 pm

Thought I'd start a thread so you can tell us about your favourite app, little gems we might not have come across, etc.

I downloaded one yesterday and I really think it works off of magic ;)

Google Sky Map https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... HJvaWQiXQ..

Point your tablet at the sky and it tells you the constellations, planets etc. move your tablet and the screen moves too. I can't figure out how it works without a GPS, pure genius.

That is a cool app, it's most likely getting the co-ordinates via wifi - or if you were not connected to wifi at the time, it is magic!

Google Sky Map (GSM) is one of my favouite apps. I didn't think it would work on the (non GPS) Excel, but it seems to... of sorts.

I ran a back to back (actually it was side by side!) test with GSM on my phone and the Excel... they both showed different things! I wonder if the Excel is caching location info as at the last time it was connected to wi-fi. I think Google maps does something similar...if I'm offline and clear the application data, it doesn't know where it is.

If not, it truly is electrickery!

Can't get a visual on anything celestial... too much cloud.

I've switched off everything on the phone, but it an the Excel are still out of whack a bit... they now seem to being showing the same area of sky, but differently orientated.

I'll wait until I can get a visual reference, then see which device is the more accurate.

Another one to add the list is an app I saw recommended on another thread. Swype, it's absolutely brilliant, once you get used to it. It's even got a built in dictaphone which is fun if not totally accurate all the time.

For info you need to get Swype from their website.

Using it now works super fast for me. Remember to only take your finger of between words. It will even put the spaces in for you.
