Thanks to scrollbob for putting things into perspective. I have worked out the fact that the system is taking up roughly 891mb.

The internal storage is devided into two parts. 2gb is internal memory of which 1.1gb is available for installing applications. The rest about 891mb is taken up by Android system files.

Then theres the additional internal storage called (External Storage SD Card 2gb). Combined the internal storage and the internal sd storage you get 4gb.

I have taken a closer look at the memory distribution by using System Panel Lite > Meny > System Info > Storage.

I hope this puts the matter to rest for anyone who is thinking of sending their scroll excel back like I did. I will be cancelling my return now. Thanks once again to scrollbob for making the effort.

Now back to angry birds! Oh by the way happy new year to all.

All,

I had the same as others reported so I have just contacted Storage Options direct who advised the following:

512MB DDR3 RAM - This shows up as 316mb as the other is allocated to the video card

4GB Flash - Just under 2Gb of this is hidden which is why you only see half of it.

Cortex A8 1GHz Processor:

The cortex A8 is based on the ARMv7 processor and has the correct floating point for the cortex A8 which is VFPv3.
The A7 processors floating point is VFPv4.
So it appears to be the Cortex A8.
Scrollbob posted the question on the ARM Processor forum if you want to check it out

If in doubt then the guy at Storage Options tech support was very helpful - contact number for them is:

I too had the query about spec. Seems Ebuyer have posted the following in their comments......

Why System Panel Lite or similar is incorrectly reporting an "under performance"
review by:Anonymousoperating system:Not Applicable

This is why System Panel Lite or similar is incorrectly reporting an "under performance", when in fact it is simply how tablets work. You will find that this will be the case with pretty much every tablet you buy/use....

CPU:
The Cortex A8 processor uses the ARM v7 instruction set so it will report itself as ARM v7. Compared side-by-side to the Scroll Essential, Scroll Excel clearly has a much more powerful processor.

RAM:
Some of the onboard RAM is shared with the graphics accelerator so it will report as less than the full 512MB. Chips can only be supplied in multiples of 8MB (e.g. 256MB, 512MB) so it isn't possible for a system to only have 317MB in total. Scroll Excel has 512MB, but a fluctuating amount will be used to render graphics.

Memory:
There is a 4GB internal flash memory chip which is split into two partitions of approximately 2GB each. One partition holds the operating system which is hidden so that the user cannot accidentally delete system files. The other partition is free for storage use. That is why system reporting tools will only show around 2GB of built-in storage.

Speaking of the CPU.

According to every system monitor I have tried so far.
It reckons the CPU is running at 1.2GHZ???

And lastly, speaking of Storage. I wish to God I could find a way to install games to extern_sd (the external SD card). I fitted a 16GB sd card. That would solve all my woes with some of these massive games.

Happy new Year Everyone

Use GL to SD to put the big files from android data onto your SD card. App to SD just moves the small program files.

Are all Excels rooted? If so, how do you access the 'root' directory level?
I'd be quite keen to remove the unnecessary phone system files... could you please explain where they are and which ones you would advise removing?

Thanks

That thread you link to doesn't actually state what ones to remove and in what order does it?
