TVCatchup

Postby klc02 » January 6th, 2012, 10:48 am

Hi Guys,

Could someone please confirm if the Scroll EXCEL is able to run http://www.tvcatchup.com with no issues? If so do you need to use skyfire or will any browser work:?:
Cheers

Just tried it briefly on my works wifi so thats probably a bit congested at lunchtime...

I tried ITV1 and BBC1 in low and normal.

I used Dolphin HD browser with Flash plug-in, it played OK in low quality, but dropped the frame rate badly on normal quality. Admittedly that could be the network here but I have a cpu/resource monitor running "Cool Tools" which showed maxed out CPU when playing flash videos. So, equally it could be the Excel. I thought Skyfire had a special implementation of Flash which worked better or something, I think its a paid extension and I don't have it.

I and others on the forum have logged an issue to do with video/audio sync on the Excel, i.e. the sound its out by half a second on most, but not all videos. They do seem to be taking notice and looking into it.

Nice one moaxial and many thanks for your rapid response, it's much appreciated.

I purchased the Scroll 51624 in Feb 2011. With the help from this excellent site, I recently managed to upgrade it
to (CyanogenMod 7). I also installed Adobe Flash 10.2 and Skyfire Premium Licence (it's now much more usable)- but sadly, it still won't play TVCatchup!

So, I'm now really keen on purchasing the Scroll Excel and if it plays TVCatchup (then that will be Happy Days!) :D

tvcatchup doesn't work particulary well on my tab.

The BBC channels are OK but the others break up so much they are hardly watchable.

Hi rayhertford,

Thanks for your info.
It's unfortunate that the Excel also has issues when trying to view TVCacthup. It must be an Adobe Flash 11 issue?

Are you able to watch the ITV player on your Excel with no issues?

Hi klc02

ITV Player is jerky and for some reason the android version of the player won't download to the Scroll Excel but the IOS version appears as a valid download!! (it doesn't work)! So you can only watch using the default browser hence everthing is jerky, same as rest of tvcatchup. The BBC player allows an android download so I guess that's why that works OK.

@rayhertford - Read this post on how to get ITV Player viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1719&p=12616#p12616

@klc02 - I too have just tried TVcatchup (with flash 11.1, stock browser) and it is choppy - No good at all :(

Hi Ray

Thanks for your very quick reply.

I hope the issues aren't due to hardware specs (As the Excel seems to have sufficent muscle).

Perhaps when the Excel gets the Android 4 update - things will start to work.

Kind regards

Thanks Charlie

It may well be that the Excels Cortex A8 CPU just can't cope with the demands from the TVCatchup site. In which case the Excel may never be able to utilise this site (at least as a "watchable" option).

Cheers

Maybe - but a firmware update might solve this. As for flash streaming from blinkbox and bbc website - it is fine and quality is great, but has a lip-sync issue - but there are reports today of a 4.0 FW that fixes the lip-sync :D
