Hi, Mad-Dog
...and intend on using my scroll as a hackable toy

Ditto, except I don't have your Linux experience. I got mine to learn more Linux/Android and, er, as a toy :) I'm sure your experience will be valuable here.

Hi all,
Went to Maplins and had a look at the promo version, but no 3D so bought the next one up whilst dribbling uncontrollably ;)

I develop 3D software so was looking for a decent tablet with 2.1+ and 3D, which the scroll fitted esp at the bargain of ~£160.

I've spent an age looking through droid forums for this tablet to no avail until I stumbled upon this golden nugget of a forum... Had already rooted the device and built a couple of 3D test apps, which worked nicely.
Bit gutted there's no GPS or Bluetooth, but I'm sure with a bit of hackery the USB bluetooth stack can be compiled into it, which will then give the ability to use more addons with it anyway.

Looking forward to being part of what appears to be a great and friendly forum.

Jimmy

I build hospitals, airports and shopping centres in 3D for Wayfinding, looking to put the applications into droid format for realtime mobile wayfinding/asset tracking

We are a whille away from compliling usb bluetooth stacks into it I think as we curently do not appear to have one perticular person who is more technically able than anyone else really. We are kind of just chargeing at stuff and seeing what happens XD

I wonder what drivers have actually be included to support stuff pluged into the usb host...

Well looking through the droid compiler options, enabling bluetooth (which in theory would also work for usb based devices) is a simple compilation switch:
Code: Select all
BOARD_HAVE_BLUETOOTH := true

in
BoardConfig.mk.

If Scrolloptions are as user-base friendly as they appear maybe they could enable said option in their forthcoming "update"

Adding other peripherals via usb won't be quite so easy as you'd need to compile drivers for each specific bit of required kit into the build each time, since only HID and storage appears to be natively supported in teh nix/droid build.

Bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas, still finding our way round it and will no doubt have questions as time goes by.

Scroll did not build this device at all really its just a braded generic tablet from china so I dont know how much help they will actually be. It would be great if they dev for it but im doubtful...
Has someone tried just pluging a bluetooth dongle in and seeing if its reconised? I mean this build has radio/gps stuff in it and the scroll has neither why not just try it and see lol

Yeah I tried my poké2 usb BT adapter (Which uses the generic BT stack happily) but no bt available from a test app as there's no stack installed in the droid build... If it were enabled then the thing should work.

*edit*

When I get a bit of time away from "proper" development I'll look at recompiling 2.1 using a romdump from my scroll see if I can get BT enabled.
