Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

I locked the screen and when I unlocked it, I got the message that wi-fi couldn't be used in Airplane Mode, so I know it was half working. Please help, as the battery is awful at the moment.

The only way to get better battery life, (apart from turning screen contrast down and doing other little power saving tips) is to root and then rename the following the 3 phone related apks (in this order) PMT.

To get root for a scroll with 2.3 have you tried Super One Click?

I must admit I'm a bit scared about rooting my tablet in case it messes it all up. Anyway, I haven't got the first clue on how to do it and then what to do if something goes wrong. Any help would be much appreciated

The danger with rooting is what you do after you have root, (ie you can delete important files, that without out them would mess up your device, big time) more than getting the device rooted. It is harder to root a 2.3 device, I thought that there was another thread on this forum on 'how to root' a 2.3 scroll - Gingerbreak or super one click are possible options.
