Hi

Postby beachbum » July 21st, 2011, 4:01 pm

I bought my 8" Scroll in March and only had it a week before the wi-fi packed up! And I was away from the UK at the time. Fortunately the guys at Customer support came up trumps and, once I got back home, I shipped off the unit for repair and it returned 48 hours later with a new board/later edition software installed and most of the niggly faults fixed, except the switching on when plugging the charger in, which I notice on here seems to be a general fault.

I intend using the Scroll mainly as a versatile e-reader but am struggling to download ebooks to it. I've got all my books stored on Calibre and thought it was only a case of downloading them to the Scroll for them to appear in Kindle for me to read - silly me!

I'd really appreciate some help - please bear in mind that if I was a computer whizz, I wouldn't be struggling, so keep the explanations simple. Would I be better getting an SD card and downloading books onto that for the Scroll?

I tried downloading Aldiko as a reader with no success whatsoever. Any suggestions for a good reader if I can't get my books into Kindle?

Generally speaking I like the Scroll but would like to make best use of it. Hopefully I shall pick up some good tips on here from all you rather more experienced guys.

Hi beachbum - welcome to the forum

If you want an ereader try googleing for "fbreaderj" which I find works well on the scroll. You wont need the market to get it, its available direct from their website which is here. Scroll down the page (excuse the "Scroll" pun!) the download links are a little way down the page on the left.

An SD card would be useful as fbreader uses it to store books (or rather you can set it to do so in options).

I use mine for an ereader, too. I had a legacy of Palm ebooks (in pdb and prc format), and I found iReader works very well. Don't know if it supports the formats you have but it's worth a try! I'm fairly sure you can download the installation file (ends with .apk) from the web if you Google it.

Hi beachbum.

The easiest way to get books onto your scroll is use a card reader in the pc, transfer them to the memory card and reinsert it onto your scroll.

You could always use "dropbox" but thats another story (though just as easy)
