@Glynn: Follow the instructions above once rooted. From memory your Scroll will hang on the first step - hence the reboot.
There is another way to get the same result which I find safer, your choice whether to use it or not
Obviously, you dont have market access, but if you did you could download "Battery Booster". The webpage is
HERE.
I find that the latest version plays up on 2.1, so I use version 2.9 which you can get from
HEREInstall the program and hit the "battery tweak" tab. At the bottom you will see "smart battery saver", enable it and make sure "security level" is set to "low". Reboot your scroll and the phone apk's should be disabled. Youll need to play around with the other settings a bit to get it working how you want it but mine works just the same way as renaming the apk's without rooting the device or manually renaming stuff
