Browser issue

Postby johnwak » June 20th, 2011, 4:52 pm

Have just purchased a 2.3 tablet and the Browser app is not working.
The google search page loads and before you can enter anything into it the screen returns to the app selection menu.
Searches work fine from the the search app.
Tried a factory reset and no change.
Also loaded a different browser and found that any web page accessed by using a favourite resulted in the same result ie a return to the App selections menu.
Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks for any help

Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I have exactly the same problem. even if setting the default browser to skyfire, the page tries to load then reverts to the Scroll home display. Got my 2.3 7" tablet 4 weeks ago and the browser worked fine initially: could it be a downloaded app causing a conflict? or horrors, it is a virus? :?

In the browser settings (if you can reach them) is there a setting for "enable addons" or "enable javascript"? If so can you disable them?

Thanks for the suggestion fonefixer: I managed to acess the settings, Javascript was disabled, "plug-ins" were enabled, so I disabled them. Also disabled other non-essentials like 'form-filling' and 'remember passwords'. Back to desktop, but no change. When browser is 'tapped' home page (Google) almost loads before reverting back to the desktop. :?

Haven't installed opera, but tried skyfire with the same result when given the option to use this as default.

try:
http://www.storageoptions.com/support/scroll-downloads

"We recommend that all 7" Capacitive Scroll owners apply the update below.
Due to recent changes to the Google.com (and regional variation) homepage, some users have experienced problems using the pre installed Android browser. Please apply the update below for optimised browser performance."

The great thing about this is that there is now an official 'backup'.

Eventually got round to installing the update.
Couldn't be easier, and also provides icons for volume up/down, 'menu', 'home', and 'back' on the toolbar, so avoids the 'clicks' of the physical buttons.
Rebooting takes a couple of minutes so be patient.
Thanks again bdb.
:D
Now off to the video section for my playback problems!
