Ok, flash it back to 2.1 for now. I'll dig deeper.

UPDATE: Ive dug a little deeper (about 5-6 feet!)
Could you try the following please:

When you flashed it originally, did you have the sim card and microSD card inserted? if so try reflashing with neither inserted, report results please Sir.

If that fails try the following: Before you attempt flashing the handset reset it to default by typing *2767*3855# in the dialler screen (handset will display a few messages and reboot). Then, before flashing, remove both the memory card and sim card, format the memory card in your pc and re-insert it into your handset. Turn on your phone normally (no sim card) and let the handset write the files it wants to the memory card. Then reboot into download mode and flash it. Report results please Sir.

Yes, both SD and SIM inserted at the time. Have just tried again with JPQ without flashing back to 2.1 and with both cards removed. Same result as before. Will now flash back to 2.1 and follow your explicit instructions. :D

I am supposed to be fitting a new suspended ceiling in the sunlounge at this moment so it may be a while before I can report back

Report sooner than expected as ceiling is a two handed job and the other hands have gone out ;)

Without cards it worked. Checked IMIE and wi-fi all OK. :D What does that tell you? Do I have still have to format the SD card before I put it back?

It tells me you should have flashed it without the sim/ mem card present. Haha.
With regard to,the memory card, yes,you do.

D'ya think the original JPQ file you removed from download would have worked if Andrew had done it properly??? ;)

So, what has this version of Froyo got that the one you put on my other phone hasn't?

Samsung handsets can, in theory, be flashed with or without a sim/memory card in.

However, Samsung will advise you "if flashing fails, try again with both items not inserted". Service centres always flash them with neither in place. (That is the official advice - but then we do use a dedicated jig, not just USB). Think along the lines of trying to reinstall Windows on your pc with two internal HDD's, you are asked to choose which one you wish to install the operating system on, if you dont it will cause issues.

Also, if a sim is inserted, the radio part of the firmware will be active and may not shut down correctly for flashing (its in the bootloader) hence the reboot error.

Basically, if one way fails, try the other. :D

As to what has been fixed in this latest build, it boils down to GPS chip and boot issues. The GPS should lock faster etc.

Thanks Dave for that detailed response.

One further question if I may, could I flash and would it be advantageous, my other Apollo with this JPQ firmware? That is, the one you flashed JPM, adopting all the lessons I have learnt, of course

Hi Andrew,

Finished your lawns then?

It might be advantageous, and yes you could flash it but at this stage I wouldn't. This is simply because in a day or two's time you may notice an issue with the JPQ firmware - if you flash both you'll have to flash both back - no need to make extra work for yourself. I would wait a week or so and see how you get on.

You could always flash the other one with XWJPI ( nasty, aren't I for putting the idea in your head!)

XWJPI is another localised version of the same firmware.

It wont root? cant have that, will ping an email to R&D right now to investigate.
