Make sure all autosync's are turned off. Have a look through each apps settings and see if the autoupdate. if so turn it off.
One other thing to try is turn off data connection and see if the phone speeds up - if it does then something is syncing constantly in the background (with no data cxn it cant keep syncing). Check things like email apps.
Im off today ( i worked saturday for a change) so if you need help text me.
If you really want a rooted handset i'd suggest loading the jpm froyo - its pre-rooted. The procedure to load it is slightly different (one-package method).

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

OK thanks, I'll look at all that. The data connection is already off. I might ask you for the jpm froyo so I can delete some apps I don't want!

Enjoy your day off 8-)

Don't forget to mention that if you move an app in Froyo to the SD card and put an icon for that app on your desktop, the icon wont necessarily still be on your desktop when you power down and restart ;) ;)

Caught me out that one on my GT!!
