Evoke Screen Keyboard

From trawling the internet I'm aware that I'm not alone in finding the in built screen keyboard almost unusable on the Evoke. It's key repeat function is far too sensitive and I can often a single tap has left 6 characters. Sometimes I don't even have to touch the screen for characters to appear. On the other hand, I know that no one's going to post on-line to say the keyboard is OK. So I was wondering if this was a problem being suffered by all and required a firmware fix or is it affecting a few Evoke users?

Can any other Evoke users comment on their experiences with text input?

I don't have an evoke, but do use the Hackers Keyboard with English dictionary from Play store, see if you have the same issue with that one. That way you will find out if it's a hardware or software problem.

Thanks Charlie, I've just loaded the Hacker's Keyboard as you advised and wow! what a difference. Now it works like a keyboard should. And it's got an apostrophe key, something that I didn't have with the stock keyboard.

I'd previously contacted Scroll support and they'd suggested returning the Evoke tablet as faulty. Glad I didn't waste time doing that.

I am pleased for you, it's a nice keyboard with more keys and options to customise in the settings - It is the one I use the most. Glad it's saved you the hassle of a return too.

Hi.
Hackers Keyboard by Klaus Weidner

Be warned !, did you read the the small print about what you agree too ?.

'I was giving permission to use the microphone any time or for him (app maker) to look at any data on the tablet'.

It's full of spyware !!!!!.

If you download any apps just check what you are agreeing to with the download.

The "Record Audio" permission doesn't appear in the current copy on Play though it must be required for the voice input. If you are really concerned then you can always download the source from :
https://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/ and check it out, after all it is open source.

In addition you could always install a firewall and stop the app connecting to the Internet if you are paranoid about security.

That permission is there because it has a speech to text function that can be activated via the keyboard - nothing to worry about

I think it's the product itself matter, it's a defective product, or the <a href="http://www.laptopelite.com">screen keyboard</a> can work well, maybe sth is wrong with the driver.
