Anyone found a screen protector yet and other Qs?

Hi, picked my first tablet up yesterday in the form of the Engage - very impressed for the money (£120 inc a case @ Scan)

Is there a screen protrctor available for them yet? - I've come up blank with Google

I've ordered a 32gb micro SD (£12.99 from 7dayshop) is there anything I need to know about what I should save to it and how to keep the onboard memory free?

and has anyone any advice about cheap internet tethering or dongles?

Cheers all!

:D

Congratulations on your purchase. I don't know much about the Engage as I don't have one but if it is like other Scroll models then the screen is probably glass and may not need a protector. If it is glass then it will show fingerprints like mad but this can be solved by using a microfibre cloth. Breath on your screen to get the condense from your breath and then wipe - it comes perfectly clean.

Like you, I have not seen any 8" screen protectors about but you could always cut down an iPad sized one if you really need it. I had a look at the 32g card on 7 day and note it is only a class 4.... I feel you would have been better advised to fork out the extra £6.00 to get the class 10.

You may find that trying to play HD video from a class 4 card will be jerky.
Thankfully, we have the SD Association's real speed classes to consult.
Here's a handy chart that provides an at-a-glance breakdown of what each class offers:

Speed Class_______________________ Minimum Write Speed___________________ Suitable For
Class 2: _____________________________ 2 MB/s_________________________________SD video
Class 4:______________________________4 MB/s______________________________Some video, stills
Class 6:______________________________6 MB/s______________________________HD video, HD stills
Class 10:____________________________10 MB/s____________________1080p HD video, burst shooting mode

There are some threads on the forum about tethering - use the search funtion and you should find something.
As far as keeping the memory free - don't download too many free apps. There are loads of too good to be true apps on the Google playstore that are frequently calling home and hogging your bandwidth. Just install what you really need and want. When you are all set up the way you like it then read the forum about making a backup.

Thanks for the reply TC,
Yes glass screen and quite reflective. I've ordered an 'anti-glare' screen protector off ebay so i'll reply back with my thoughts as my wife says the kindle app is a pain in sunlight.
It's 164x122mm so covers just the visable screen area.

I've got some .avi film files on my sd card and play fine - not sure of res though
and I've got some 720p video off my camera on there that also plays fine - I'll report back if I get any issues

been reading some of the threads on here about rooting and slimming the OS - I take it it applies to any tablet?

Cheers
:)

In principle yes - in practice you need device specific knowledge - tablet specific files/roms.
Unless you are unlucky it seems that most Storage Options tablets are already rooted straight out of the box.

here's a pic of the tablet with anti glare screen protector fitted
Image
as you can see it just covers the visible screen only.
Haven't been bothered with any sensitivity issues either - there is some slightly less sensitivity but not enough to be an issue

:)
