[ STILL UNSOLVED]Please help root a Scroll Essential?

There are guides to rooting the 2.1 essential, but not the new one. I have tried super one click, z4root, and gingerbreak, but none work. Does anyone know how to root it? (Please only tell me how if you have tried XD)

Since it turns out that there are many versions, I will confirm that it has:
Android 2.3 (not 2.1) out of the box.
Not rooted out of the box
Telechips
1GHZ
7" Resistive Single touch [:-(]
And android market support if that helps.

Anyone have theirs rooted? Please Help.

Thanks.
James

Edit-Changed misleading title. It is not rooted out of the box by the way.

Right, well, now i know there are two versions... lol
What version is it, the one that uses the old Telechips or new Allwinner A10 proccessor ?
If its the Allwinner A10 then it will be rooted out of the box..
If its the Telechips version i cannot comment...
Apart from that i used superoneclick on my old Capacitive and it worked fine.

Yea... Mine has the Telechips 1GHZ. SuperOneClick freezes on my computer (which is high spec), so I guess something is wrong.

Hi James, you undoubtedly have the old spec Essential judging from the hardware you describe.
The new Scroll Essential does have the Allwinner A10 chip not the Telechips one. Unfortunately Storgae Option appear to change their specs quite often and depending where you buy from can mean the difference berween getting an early version or a later one.
Exactly the same thing has occurred with the Excel which has at least 3 known different builds - according to the members of the forum. Also some have Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the latest with ICS 4.0.3.

I had one of these early Telechips Essentials but I can't remember if it was rooted straight out of the box or not.
Try installing "Super User" from Google play and ESfile explorer and then see if you can navigate to and view the root directory using ESfile explorer.
Esfile explorer should ask for SU permission, when it does click OK, if you can then navigate to the root directory then your tablet is allready rooted out of the box. some of the early Scrolls were. If Superuser refuses to work then chances are its not rooted as SU requires root to work.

Using terminal, it says that it is not rooted, and does not have SU access. I purchased the tablet about 5 months ago.

the old 2.1 telechips were not rooted don't know about 2.3 telechips essential.
if after downloading superuser app and updating the apps binary try to type su again in a terminal if $ still does not change to # then you don't have root and will have to try "z4root" app on the tablet or "superoneclick" on PC TO OBTAIN ROOT
google both these terms to get the instructions
