I just tried a Vodafone K3570-Z and it didn't work. Not sure if I had to have done anything special to make it work though.

This is probably a good example of what dongle is supported.
This is the list taken from my Excel.
This device can support below 3G Doogles:
Doogle List:
WCDMA: HuaWei E230,HuaWei E176G,HuaWei E160E,HuaWei E182G,HuaWei E1782,,HuaWei E1750, ZTE MF633BP-1,ZTE MF633,ZTE MF637U,HuaWei E1756,HuaWei UMG1691. CDMA2000/EVDO: HuaWei E150 ,Huawei EC1261,HuaWei EC122,Huawei EC156,HuaWei EC1270, ZTE AC580, ZTE AC2736, ZTE AC2746.
Usage : Just insert the available 3G Doogle, and it will automatically dial-up.

I hate it when people answer a different question to the one asked and here I am at risk of doing exactly the same. But why not use a mobile WiFi hotspot such as a MIFI? Come to think of it most smart phones will do that in any case.
I use the private hotspot created on my HTC Wildfire to access the internet on my Excel when out and about.

Agreed.
I do think a MIFI device would be a better option.
I haven't taken my Excel out anywhere as yet, but my Aging Nokia 5800 only puts out an Ad hoc connection. And even that needs an app.
Time to buy an Android phone to go with my tablet.

That list was from the 3g info file on my ICS Excel. So the support may differ slightly
