This is the reality of modern technology - the product life is the same as the battery life. I haven't opened mine up but would expect to find everything pretty tight inside and the battery will be a one-off, not a shiny row of AA cells so in say two-three years time are you going to be able to source a replacement anyway and at what price ? - probably cheaper to buy a new Tablet with a new OS.

I see SO did a "mi-Scroll" tablet that allowed you to change the battery, and you probably could get a spare battery now although what the situation will be in 2 years is another story. Buying a stock and hoarding them is not a sensible option as they will lose their capacity if stored for extended lengths of time.

There are some pictures on the forum http://www.box.com/s/9nadxgp3zfig0e7eqbfi showing the inside of an Excel, but I would imagine that the other models are pretty similar. It seems that the Chinese use what someone has described as their version of duct-tape to stick everything in place - including the battery - which is usually accessible once you have manged to get the back cover off, stuck firmly with this guey tape to the back of the circuit board/screen.

There will probably be wires attaching the rear case speaker/s to the circuit board so care is required in not ripping these off. Presumably if you can get this far in and seperate the battery then you could replace it, but I expect you would have problems finding one to suit. If/when the battery fails completely, if you cant find a suitable replacement you could open the case, isolate the dead battery, re-assemble and run the tab straight from the power charger or usb or even from an external rechargeable usb battery pack.

Whe the time comes - if you do decide to open it up, please take some pictures so we can all take a look.

You can get them on ebay, here's an example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1pcs-Original-Battery-Replacement-For-Cube-U9GT2-9-7-9-7-Inch-Tablet-PC-New-/221031040543?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item33767a061f

There are loads of tablets with the same basic design, try and get a battery with the highest rated capacity.

No point in emailing Storage Options, they don't even open the inside. They buy generic tabs in bulk and pay around $3 to have a logo added. I actually worked out the costs for the Extreme.

Based on buying 10,000. Price per tablet:

Tablet: £44
Custom Firwmare: Free for large orders
Logo on back: £2
Box: £2
Shipping: £3

Total: £51, although not sure about taxes.

As you can see it's a great business to run and if a tablet breaks they just write it off and send a new one out (if you are lucky and they are in a good mood).

edit: should add that the prices are from me contacting a large manufacturer.

thats a better markup than clothing retail so if you get a half decent product with not more than say 10% returns you're still on to a winner

looking at those numbers i recon the ipad2 prob comes in to apple for about $80

I've been looking for the spec for this but couldn't find what I was after - it looks like the Anker Astro 2 which has a 5v 2A output capability which should be fine for the Extreme providing it comes with a USB -> 2.4mm adapator otherwise you are reduced to using 500mA USB port charging.
