BBC iPlayer via Web Browser

Postby kneerm » June 8th, 2012, 9:47 am

Can someone please clarify whether the as supplied tablet can load the iplayer via the web browser?

I dont really want to get into using the app via a modified ROM.

I have downloaded the latest Flash Player 11 but having selected a programme when I press Play a loading video breifly message appears before returning to the previous screen.

Any explanation or help to get it working would be appreciated.

I'm sure this will be of great interest to many Scroll Extreme owners

Regards

It does work but playback is not perfect with the default ROM - you may need to change the browser User Agent to Android - sometimes it gets set to iPad which causes the problem you are describing.

In my stock extreme and most ROMs I have tried playback is fine for about 30 seconds then it goes into software accelerated mode and goes very choppy and is unwatchable.

The latest CM9 ROM's fix this and playback is almost as good as on an iPad.

you can use the iPlayer app on the stock Rom,it just doesn't show on the market .
google 'BBC iPlayer apk' on your tablet browser, download & install from one of the many filehost links.

as johnny above says though, its so easy to install cwm recovery & the cm9 Rom that its foolish not to , its absolutely solid & stable & Christian (the guy who does these roms) pushes new updates at least once a week.once cm9 is installed all new Rom updates can be downloaded & installed directly from the tablet using the inbuilt updateme app. even been playing the new gameloft game N.O.V.A. 3 on my tab with this Rom,very impressed that it even works.

developer options, force gpu for 2d graphics sorts the stuttering out completely in fullscreen mode;) still does it if you switch back to small screen from full screen while watching a program though,I watched iPlayer in bed last night for a good 2 hours fullscreen without a hitch!

Never tried this - interesting and I can see why it would work. Works fine on CM9 though when switching from big to small.

I'm on cm9 myself, but still have the problem when switching back from fullscreen, think I'm on the 4th June release, will try the just released one later though, its nice to be able to update in-tablet without losing any data/apps which is why ill stick with the cm9 Roms + no disrespect to suggsy but its head & shoulders better compatibility wise with apps, the only 2 things I can fault are no screen compatibility mode & no g-sensor compatibilty / calibration which are available in stock & suggsys build, hoping Christian will look into these as they are both very useful.

Hmmm maybe it doesn't work then on mine too then - thinking about it I am not completely sure I have done it - I thought I had, at least I haven't noticed a problem going from full screen to windowed.

Think I will be sticking to CM9 too especially as Suggsy hasnt got time to update his any longer. I am using the latest CM9 which was released yesterday.
