They both charge the tablet so a connection of some sorts between laptop and tablet, just not one that allows file transfer. I did do a factory reset - but it seems to have left some videos on there, so doesn't appeared to have been completely wiped either. Is there a USB driver I can try to load or similar?
Sorry, not that I am aware of. (USB driver is integral with the firmware loaded in the tablet's OS.)
You could try looking into the usb socket with a bright light and a magnifying glass to see if any of the conductive strips have been damaged or are missing. Alternatively, if you feel brave enough you could open the tablet up and examine the usb connections but care will be needed not to do damage.
I expect you have already tried lightly wiggling the cable to see if you can establish some sort of connection ?
Just a thought assuming you are using Microsoft Windows x ... Go to "Start/Control Panel/Device manager" and see if there are any exclamation marks or question marks against any of the usb or
other devices drivers. If there is then choose to uninstall the driver and ensure delete driver backup is also ticked. Then connect the tablet again and see if windows trys to re-install the driver. This is a longshot but you may get lucky.
