@Charlie
Funny you should say that.
I tested VIPBox.tv. And in the stock ICS browser it seemed perfect.
On 2.3 flash videos were a jerk-fest.

What I want to do now is take the camera libs and camera.apk fron Dave's ROM, and try them on Suggsy's.
Can anyone provide them please?
It will save me having to flash another ROM just to try out the camera.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great info in this thread. I bought a Scroll Excel (arrived Saturday morning) and flashed it with ICS that same day. To be honest I could not live with the awful lip-sync in 2.3 lol. I figured if I brick the device I've got a better chance of being able to return it to Amazon if I do it right away (I'd just say it didn't work for the get go) Bit naughty I know :)

In case anyone is interested, my experience of installing ICS has a couple of weird things. Bear in mind I'm a novice and rooting/flashing etc. I followed the post, which then said to do a backup (so I could restore), so I followed the info in the other thread about installing BusyBox (I do not even know what a BusyBox is lol) unfortunately I installed version 19.4 and then I noticed it said version 19.3 bricks the phone (note to Mitre, probably better to say which version bricks the device in the first post ;) Thought better off uninstalling 19.4 but the process was taking ages (unlinking a bunch of files in /sbin etc) and when it was done the result was the device would not boot up!

But I could see that adb was running, so I just went ahead and flashed the img file (English one) using LiveSuit (also the LiveSuit in the first post didn't work for me, I had to find another version using Google which is in chinese or something). I flashed the img and it booted first time into ICS, brilliant. But now I don't have a recovery image.

Can someone please explain if I need CWM installed? I'm not even sure what that is, as I haven't done it and the device is working okay. I assume this is the thing when you boot you can install other zip files? What happens if I don't install it?

Anyway, so far as I can tell this version of ICS is great. Very snappy and no lipsync issues at all. Netflix, iPlayer and working very sweet. All the games I've tried using the Play Store (ugh!) work perfectly. Fragger said my device was incompatible but I found an apk and it actually works perfectly too.

The only issue I have come across is that on rare occasions it seems to lock up (seems to happen mostly when installing to SD card) if I wait a few seconds it usually is okay. But otherwise the device will reboot and when it comes back the wifi is off and I can't enable it. Rebooting again fixes it.

Thanks again if anyone can answer my questions above I appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum.
It is normal for the device to stop and think about things, when downloading from the Market(Play Shop) etc.

In order to create a backup, you will need to put CWM on, from this thread.
Once this is done, you can boot into recovery by holding the menu key, and press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
In CWM Recovery, you can select the option Backup/Restore.
Navigate in recovery using the volume up/down and the power key to select.

Hi blueeagle, thanks for your speedy reply.

If I hold menu + power on, I do already have a recovery menu - I guess this is the manufacturer installed one. I get an android with a red triangle. Then I press home and I get some options (it says android recovery <3e>) but I can't navigate through the menus using vol +- even though it says it on the screen).

Is there any risk of bricking it by installing CWM, or is it a fairly safe procedure?

Yes mate.
It isn't too bad.
Just follow suggsy's guide earlier on in the thread.
You need cwm. As the stock recovery doesn't support firmware backup.

I may have fixed the issue with the internal storage and sdcard were being mounted the wrong way round, just testing the fix now.

There seems to be a small issue with the wifi meter.
If wifi is switched off, the blue signal bar still shows all of a sudden.

Its only recently started.
Very strange.
Noticed a problem with the email widget too.
I had the widget added to my homescreen.
I then removed it, but later changed my mind. Went to add it again. And it said app not installed, and wouldn't put it back on the homescreen.
I may flash the English ROM and try that.
