Very odd.
I confirm those versions are now installed on mine with the the zip I provided.
Try using dropbox. And install them directly from there.
I now have working calendar and contacts using Go Contacts.
My Calendar sync that I installed is 2.2.1 on my Excel.
Have you installed the Sync app that another helpful Excel user provided in this thread?

If you want to try the Gingerbread versions, then Google this "googlecalendarsyncadapter.apk 2.3.4"

I cannot post the link here directly, but you will find ways to get these files by using that term.

btw, make sure you have a virus killer installed just in case.

I have found that Android Market will not allow me to install Go Contacts as it is not compatible with the scroll Excel however, if you google GO Contacts EX 2.05.apk you will find a download for it.

Blueeagle69 you are a legend! Google'd your suggestion for 2.3.4 versions of the sync apks and found them. Installed both without issue and calendar now fully functioning. I need to install the contacts apk to get that syncing next.
Only other thing left to get the Excel how i want it now, is to remove the system icon showing that there is no phone signal. I think some sort of airplane mode toggle which leaves an option for WiFi to be left active.
Thanks for your help. Cheers

Sorry, not being technically minded, despite the replies above, I still cannot understand how to get the calendar to work. I have a gmail account and having downloaded Quicksyncsettings it shows it as sync'ed but my calendar list in the calendar app is still blank. I also downloaded another calendar app but again the calendar list is blank and there seems to be no way to add one.
step by step would be appreciated.
