miniUSB 'splitter'?

I've just bought an Excel running ICS 4.0.3. I've also bought the compatible case with keyboard which works great.

I'm now away from home and depending on my 3G dongle which works perfectly with the Excel. However, as there's only 1 miniUSB port, I can't use the keyboard and the dongle at the same time! So.............. is it possible to get a converter/hub to allow me to use both items at the same time??

If you do find one or make one up just remember that hosting on your tablet will not exceed 500Ma

Thanks for replying but I haven't a clue what you mean!

All I want to do is be able to use both the remote keyboard and the dongle at the same time.

When you plug something into a USB port it draws power from the tablet. The USB spec limits the power that the port can supply to 500mA. If you have two items connected to one port then the power will have to be split between them and may not be sufficient for either of them to work.

Thanks Bob, for your concise and simple explanation.

I'll maybe try Scroll's CS dept, are they decent or like a lot of IT company's?!!

If you end up happy with their level of support you will be in a minority.

hi Supertramp,
How exactly did you get your 3G dongle to work with your Scroll?
I've just bought a Vodafone (Huawei K4511) dongle for my laptop and cant get it to work with my 2.3.4 Scroll, any ideas gratefully received.

Not all models of 3g dongles work with the Excel and there are also different models of the Excel which confuses things even more. Some people have been successful whereas others have not. You might glean some help from this thread which is specifically a 3g dongle topic: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1986
