Ok, just got a scroll excel (not my choice) and wanting to do some NXT Mindstorm work with it, only to discover it does not have bluetooth built in. I then was wondering, if i was to buy i bluetooth dongle and plug it in to it, will it work, i look it up, nope.

So, has anyone any idea how to get bluetooth dongles working? I dont mind putting a custom firmware on it

With custom firmware it should work fine. I'm not sure if suggsy89 has included bluetooth with his firmware?

I don't know what the difference between the new scroll excel and the old one but mine is currently running 2.3.4 and seems to have 256mb of ram, will that firmware work on it (I am new to all this)?

Hi gbaman, Unfortunately there are several builds for the Excel and they are currently selling with ICS allready installed now too.
I thought that the later Excels had 512Mb but you say yours only has 256 Mb so you may have one of the earlier or even original build models. Look in system settings/about tablet and post your build back here, that may help.

Meantime, if you are quite happy to flash the Excel 4.0.4 rom and uderstand exactly what you need to do if you want to change it back later - then it is your choice. I am running an original build Excel with Suggsy's 4.0.3 ICS rom and it is so much better than 2.3.4.
I haven't tried the 4.0.4 rom yet as I have only recently put the 4.0.3 on and I am very happy with it so far.

I don't know that any of the roms support blue tooth dongles yet but perhaps someone else can help you with that.

Looks like you have got one of the second edition - how long have you had it?

There is a rom out there, i think pwned rom on slatedroid that has external bluetooth support. It wont work straight from Gingerbread though, you will have to flash an ICS rom as a base, then upgrade to a rom with bluetooth support.

None of the roms i have built support external bluetooth.

The rom for 4.0.3 link does not work
