To be fair, using the built in mic & cam on the excel for Skype seems to be a complete non goer. I was wondering if anyone has managed to get a webcam connected to the USB input working, and if so, was it any better ? I tried connecting a logic webcam, but the device didnt seem to pick it up

The built-in mic is too quiet or something? I didn't try it, but the built-in cameras seemed to work. Perhaps there's an app to boost the mic volume or something?

Built in camera not recognised by Skype & TBH, the mic picks up so much ambient noise that it is almost unusable for skype. Think the mic & speakers are too close together, so they feedback. Must admit I haven't tried it with headphones to cancel any feedback, just thought the idea of using a redundant webcam might be interesting, if it can somehow be recognised

Just an update on this Skype issue.
Either my mate has lower standards (I think he has). But he reported that there was no problems with my voice.
I was using my Excel, and he used his PC.

On the Excel released around Christmas, Skype just showed a black screen. On Ice Cream Sandwich, the camera works, but the recipient of your call will see pink lines down the camera feed.
I have posted a fix for that here.

I have also heard that Skype on the Gingerbread Excel released A couple of months ago, does indeed seem to work. But don't quote me on that one.

May be of interest to some that this is the official line from Storage Options 29th May regarding the essential.
