Excell frequently crashing or rebooting

Not sure if anyone can help,

I gave my nephew an excel for xmas and he has been complaining about problems since he was given it. I have reset it by doing a factory wipe and cleared everything but still it crashes or reboots.

you can load up web browser search for a web page then it will reboot back to the android logo at bootup or go back to the desktop, the same thing seems to happen with alot of games and apps. i cant pinpoint it down to specific ones as it seems to be random.

I have just flashed with clockwork mod and suggsy89's ICS image hoping that would fix the issues but its still happening, not sure if anyone else is having these problems or if this could be a hardware fault.

If its a hardware fault can anyone guide me how I flash this back to stock so i can send it back under warranty ?

or am I stuffed ?

Thanks for any help/advice

Wouldn't modding it void the warranty anyway? I would have just sent it back from the start unless I knew the problem was one I had knowingly caused.

I would try getting it back to it's stock OS and settings and try returning it.

@wickedweasal, when the Excel was on Gingerbread did you have CWM on it and make a backup? - If so you could get back to stock, but it will be a bit long winded. You would have to flash via livesuite the Tablo GB version (factory reset and clear cache etc) and then install CWM for GB, then flash (your own GB CWM backup) or Mitre's clean stock CMW backup of GB for the Excel.

EDIT:- P.S - You would still be stuck with CWM instead of stock recovery, there was a way to get stock recovery back on an older version of a Scroll. I am sure it can be done on the Excel - just via different method, that I am not familiar with, but Mitre or Suggys89 should be able to help you with this part.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the reply no stupidly I didnt make a backup, I have got the tablo firmware, and I am pretty sure I have Mitre's rom backup somewhere.

Could I do it with this ? or am I stuffed without a original rom backup ?

Thanks for any advice

Yes you could, as I said in my other post you would need to flash the Tablo firmware (the only current known way to get back from ICS to GB on the Excel at the mo') then flash CWM for Excel GB and use Mitre's CWM stock backup to get back to Storage Options version of GB.

You will still have CWM, not stock recovery - but the other guys can advise on how to get back to stock recovery.

Good luck

suggsy you would need to make the update zip so it has the stock scroll recovery after flashing was this your aim otherwise would have to still push stock recovery via ADB when i went back to GB from ICS i kept CWM5

As long as the update is signed correctly in theory it can be flashed from stock recovery.
So technicly you wouldnt need to flash CWM.

Im sure i sent you two links to the update i originaly made, ive lost it, if youve got it, may i have it :?:
