ITV Player

Hi guys,

I know there's an Android ITV Player on the market, but my Excel cannot find it at all? I have the actual Android Market and it should be there...

I checked the ITV website and it says you need Android 2.1 or above, which my Excel has.

I then tried to get it from a link on the internet after searching for it on Google (https://market.android.com/details?id=a ... bilePlayer) and it finds the app, but then tells me the Excel isnt compatible :?:

For a 'media companion' tablet, I seem to have to keep going back to my laptop an awful lot.

Does anybody have any info on this at all?

This is because of the build.prop in the Excel and missing permission files, There is a 'How to' fix this issue, and then ITV Player and many other apps will appear in the market. Or there is a post with a link to get the ITV Player from a website and you can sideload it onto the Excel.

@Trashcooky

thanks for your detailed reply really appreciate it.

i downloaded iplayer from play but when i open it it looks like its a browser is that right ???
i seems to be running so its a start in the right direction.

ill have a look about for the itv player...

this is only part of what i want to be able to use the extreme for the other part would be for watching movies etc but i understand we cannot stream from anyone to this device... i can copy films to my sd card and watch them that way i guess...

ill have a look about and come back to you... if you think of anything let me know... hopefully suggsys next release will be extra fantastic and really help push this device further...

thanks again

@Minijay.

Take a look here viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1719&hilit=ITV+Player the download link is still live.
There is quite a lot of information about ITV player - this is an Excel thread but the generic info is relevant to the Extreme as well.
Take particular note of the need to install Adobe air for ITV player.

A few further comments about the BBC iplayer app:
1. It is highly likely that iplayer will prompt you to update flash - there have been significant problems for users with 4.0.4 when they do this and 4.0.4 users should avoid updating flash to the latest version until 4.0.4 is declared final build. I am sure Suggsy and others will advise more on the in's and out's of this as time goes on.

2. I'm not sure what you mean when you say iplayer opens like a browser. The app should open on a screen with a camera strip of horizontal scrollable programmes along the top that you can catch up on if you wish by selecting them. There is also a search function on the top right (magnifying glass icon) which allows you to search the iplayer database for the programme you want to catch up on.
Also on the top right you will see a menu icon represented by several horizontal stacked lines and if you touch this a drop down menu will appear with the option to watch live TV - selecting this will give you a screenful of live BBC broadcasts that you can stream directly through the iplayer app (you don't need a seperate video player for this)

Charlie and I used to watch BBC streams through a browser but a few weeks ago due to changes by the BBC this function suddenly stopped and all attempts to get streams this way resulted in an error code.

Although as I keep repeating - I am using an Excel with 4.0.3 - I'm sure it will be of interest to others using an Extreme with 4.0.4 with problems, if you can get your Extreme with 4.0.3 working as good as my Excel on 4.0.3 then this may sort you out as a user who wants to use iplayer and Suggsys beta 4.0.4's can sort out those who want to make their Extremes games machines.

@Trashcooky

i got ITV player working.. works 100% better than it did before i can resize the screen and it works.. resize it back and it dont like that but no big issue i can live with that.

with the bbc iplayer im not 100% sure here. i downloaded the app from play, it shows up as an app on the tablet but when i open it it would seem to route through the web browser and plays that way. i have even tried using a different browser (opera) just on the off chance but this hasnt changed anything either ??? when i open iplayer it asks me to choose an action to complete which is either of the browsers and not the app... im guessing its the version of the app or a setting somewhere... is there a version i should be using for this ??

i have also noticed that since putting on itv player my play icon has disappeared from the apps menu ??

im running the extreme unoficial 4.0.3 ics

I think the BBC changed the iPlayer App recently as it does the same for me and my wife (wife has tablo 7" running ICS) - it simply directs to the web browser instead of using the app.

Maybe its an ICS issue?

It's not an issue, they have said they will release a proper ICS app but at the moment they have no plans to. Instead they released a redirect to their website. Pretty poor considering we have to pay £150 a year.

Thats kind of what I mean - as in its something to do with ICS rather than the hardware or ROM.
