I've got a contract 3 UK mobile Internet dangle, and after reading the similar thread I tried plugging it into my Scroll Excel via the converter cable. It's recognised it, put three.co.uk apn in and is getting a full signal on the scrolls display. However its not connecting to the Internet! I've activated mobile data in the settings. Am I doing something wrong, but could the auto-installed settings be incorre/incomplete? There's no data indicator next to the signal bars.(eg. And H , G , etc) , which are white in colour till I turn wifi on then they turn green ongoing with the wifi bars.
Any help appreciated as it'll save me eating my contract phones data allowance through tethering!

Forgot to say, it keeps throwing up the message 'external devices out' in the notification bar when plugged in, then after doing that brings up the mobile signal, pulling the notification bar down and it says '3 uk' as text operator. Still no data signal though

All I know is that make of 3g dongle should work with the Excel, but only certain model numbers. Fonefixer posted a list of compatible model numbers on the forum the other day. No one has confirmed if a 3g dongle actually works with the Excel yet.
UPDATE:- Found the list

I can cofirm that the HUAWEI E220 on 3 UK works with the Excel - tried it yesterday. Didn't have to do anything except disable wireless as the Excel (or the battery booster app I'm running) keeps trying to connect to wireless. Actually, I didn't just have to disable wireless, I had to tell the Excel to "forget" the security key for my wireless network!
However, it takes a while for the E220 to be recognised and get a signal - may depend on area, of course.
I'm not going to rely on this - I'm buying a portable router for when I go away. Plug the dongle into the router and it will create your very own portable wifi hotspot. The particular one I'm getting is:
- Code: Select all

Mine gets a signal but no data, will try the dangle on my laptop, make sure it's working ok-not useit in a little while.
I've often wondered aboutgetting one of those portable hotspots, though might use the 3 simple in a spare Samsung Apollo phone and use that as a portable hotspot.

I got my Vodafone E272 Dongle working on my Scroll without too much problem, it didn't work till I added the E272 bit to the /etc/3ginfo.txt file on the scroll.

Interesting....
Is there any way we can look at the file dependancies for that txt file? Just thinking of having a proper look at the drivers to see how its done and perhaps adding more compatibility

Your default APN settings should be stored in a file here :-
\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
There is also a complete list of ALL carriers APN settings here.

Cheers for the info, might look into that but I've got the 3 sim in a Samsung Apollo phone and using it's tethering to the Excel when out and about, works pretty well!
