@Fonefixer - Thanks for the update, that is good to know.

@Trashcooky - So is your 'build number' (in >settings>about device>) showing as = 97F1-D1-H1-H01-1291-20111128

If so that is a newer version of fw - but the one that seems to be better (at the mo' - more testing been done) is 97F1-D1-H1-H01-1291-20111122 (which is an older FW)

P.S. I started out with a ZX81 too, with that massive 16kb ram block.

I have just used unimg.exe to open up the .img but have a long list of files that I can not do anything with as it needs linux (I think)

can you do anything with these (these are the ones I need to get into) I think they can be mounted as ext4 filesystem in Linux

RFSFAT16_SYSTEM_000000000.hdr
RFSFAT16_SYSTEM_000000000

If so I will upload them - the 1st one is 1kb and the 2nd is 272,887kb

Cheers

hi charlie to mount these filles on ext4 i think i would have to re configure my hardrive to ext4 format i dont know enough about linux to do this without risking my files sorry mate

@Mitre, no worries - that image seems very hard to open, we could flash it to the Excel, but not worth it as there is not a way to get back to GB at the mo'

Could we not format a usb stick as ext4 and try it?

Employees are like mules. Some you stand in front of and coax them along with a carrot. Some you stand behind and kick them in the arse. The key to management is knowing which mules are which!

Maybe Fonefixer,

Here is some more information from a post on xda about that file = RFSFAT16_SYSTEM_000000000

I realized it's sparse ext4 image and I need to use simg2img

i really cant see why SO cant put up on there site a version of 2.3.4 buidl 97F1-D1-H1-H01-1291-20111122
as an update.zip or a even to flash with livesuite as i have not heard any negatives as a result of using this version over the 20111128
Charlie and Blueagle69 have you found any negatives compared to your oiriginal versions
whats the downside of them putting this on their site?

Is there a link to this build and a guide to installing it by any chance?

It's better than FW version...20111128 - but it does not fix all the issues. Not noticed anything worse about using your version Mitre, (so far away).

I did have one or two pops from my speaker and then it shut down. But that has stopped now. I have also had the stuck wifi when turning the screen on. Eben though I am running Wake Lock. That's normal though.
YouTube is much better though, and so are local videos so far.
While I am in here, I have a question.
I have pushed the calendar and contacts sync adapters to /system/app, and they are working great.
If I dump another backup of the firmware using clockwork recovery, will it also backup user installed apps or just system and preinstall apps?
I didn't really want to remove installed apps and games just to do a firmware with working calendar etc.:-)
