@Mitre - I hooked up a wired Microsoft keyboard and MS optical mouse via a 'no name' powered USB hub... it was hopeless.
Powered up, without the keyboard or mouse attached, the hub seemed to generate random instructions and kept opening up various apps. At one point it managed to open up the Terminal all by itself and started inserting random characters...methinks that way lays danger!
Connecting the keyboard and mouse via the hub seemed to settle things down a bit, but neither actually did much... I think I managed to get the mouse to click on some apps, but it could have been down to a random 'spike' from the hub.
Connecting the mouse direct via the OTG cable, lit it up, but nothing useful happened. The keyboard connected directly was a passable success, but I couldn't successfully 'click' (enter key) any links, so that's not great.
I think the USB connectivity aspects of Gingerbread are pretty basic, but it is a phone OS, so I suppose we can't expect much. However, ICS is designed for tablets, so I would imagine that has better USB integration, maybe even the bluetooth you're chasing... but that's another topic for another time!
